Chapter 1Introduction to Systems Analysis and Design

Chapter 1 applies to both my jobs and helped me to better understand how the process works. Letting me know what I need to know and the many different options available to me.

“do not rely on job titles alone. Some positions are called system analysts, but involve only programming or technical support.”

Chapter 2Analyzing the Business Case

• Will help in both jobs, as new contracts come in

• I will now be able to properly apply SWOT analysis, learned in Economics, Marketing and now

• When asked about new projects an educated clear answer can now be given based off of the request, feasibility, estimating time and cost

Phase 2Chapter 3-6

Requirements Modeling, Data and Process Modeling, Object Modeling, Development Strategies

• Phase 2 was areas I have no attachment to for the most part

• Total Cost Ownership was a very important factor that spills into every other chapter

• Object Modeling will help me as I continue working with Java and other programming languages

Phase 3Chapter 7

Output and User Interface Design

• This chapter really hits home because this is what I do

• The website about how users read on the Web made me re-examine how I entered surveys on Websurveyor and how the user views it and even how the client views it

Phase 3Chapter 8Data Design

• This chapter also made me look at the ways I do things

• How I could make the output more viewer friendly when being presented to the client

• Making better relationships between data allows me to come up with cleaner more understandable data for those viewing results

Phase 3Chapter 9

System Architecture

• Most of this chapter was above my level of work but allowed me to understand what was going on

• After learning about Cost Benefit issues, and backup, I started to view other tickets (a ticket is a job that needs to be done) that are assigned to other analysts and I could understand what needed to be done

• In my free time I play with batch processing

Phase 4Chapter 10

System Implementation

• System Implementation was just in time, we are currently switching from Abtab ( statistical software that’s 20yrs old, but boss knows it as if he made it)

• As we switch over I was able to ask questions straight out of the text book that helped us address problems before they arose

• Needless to say it backfired, we are still using Abtab, I did more scaring then anything

Summary

• I have learned the necessary skills needed in order for me to become a better Information System Analyst and student

• This knowledge will definitely propel my career

• After Associate’s Degree complete Bachelor’s

• Then….

…the Sky is The Limit
