Extras The San Diego temple was the third

temple built in California. After suffering a mild heart attack, the

first trip Pres. Ezra Taft Benson made out of Salt Lake 4 months later was to the San Diego California Temple, for his first time presiding over a temple groundbreaking.

Over 720,000 visitors attended the open house of the San Diego California Temple.

More Extras Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley dedicated the

temple in 23 sessions, in which 49,273 people attended.

On the 186th anniversary of the birth of Prophet Joseph Smith, on Dec 23, 1991, the angel Moroni statue was placed atop the temple. Shortly after the setting a flock of seagulls (a bird of symbolic significance to the Church) circled the statue a few times before continuing on their course.
