Part 1

2

Look not to the faults of others,

nor to their omissions and commissions. But rather look

to your own acts, to what you have done and

left undone.

3

Associate with a good man who is wise

and learned.Understand the

meaning of what one has learned, and

practise accordingly.One who has

Dhamma-experience attains supreme

happiness.

4

Those who are devoted to

the Dhamma made known by The Noble Onesare unsurpassed

in speech, thought

and action.

5

With firm resolve, guard your mind.Who so untiringly

pursues the Dhamma and the Discipline shall go beyond the round of

births and make an end of suffering.

6

With the jeweled necklace of

concentration, wrong thoughts

cannot arise nor can the mind

be distracted. So let this be your

adornment.

7

One who has much learning and is also strong

in virtue will be praised

for both his virtue and his learning.

8

Speak kind words, words rejoiced at and welcomed,

words that bear ill-will to none; always speak

kindly to others.

9

Abide without coveting

and without an angry mind.

Internally settled, bring the mind

to one point.

10

Increase in wealth is nothing

comparing to increase in wisdom.

Therefore we should train to increase in wisdom.

11

Wisdom is a gem for humans.

Merit is difficult for robbers

to carry away.

12

With heedfulnessand clear knowing,

you remove your own sorrow.

13

Irrigators regulate water.Arrow-makers fashion shafts.

Carpenters shape wood.Wise ones

tame themselves.

14

Just as a mighty boulder

stirs not with the wind,

so the wise are never moved by

either praise or blame.

15

The wise onerid of

all desire is calm

as a pool unstirred by wind.

16

By giving,merit grows;by restraint,

hatred’s checked.

17

Though beingwell-to-do,

not to support one’s father and mother

who are old and past their youth –

this is a cause of one’s downfall.

18

The End

We need kindness, wisdom and compassion in our quest for peace and liberation.
