MARK THE DATE. . .

FRIEND DAY

SUNDAY, APRIL 29th

Today we are studying the righteousness of Christ which comes to us on the basis of faith from:

Philippians 3:9

Philippians 3:9b “not having a righteousness of our own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes

from God on the basis of faith” Philippians 3:9b

Imputed righteousness

Imparted righteousness

*The word impute means “to pass to one’s account”.

*It means that God places the righteousness of Christ upon our record when we trust in Jesus for our salvation.

When a sinner believes in Christ, he or she is spiritually united with Christ, and that union makes it possible for God to credit believers with the righteousness of Christ.

Christ’s righteousness is a gift which can be described as a wedding garment—a white robe of righteousness—completely covering us in Christ.

Isaiah 61:1010 “I will rejoice greatly in the LORD, My soul will exult in my God;

For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, As a Bridegroom decks Himself with a garland,

And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”

Isaiah 61:10

Marriage of the Lamb Revelation 19:7-9 7 “Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His

bride has made herself ready.” 8 It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of

the saints. 9 Then he said to me, “Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’” Revelation 19:7-9

This declaration (God declares us “Not Guilty”) is forensic in that the legal charges against us have been dropped and we have been declared righteous.

To be credited as righteous is to be conferred a legal standing of being forgiven and no longer liable to punishment.

This new status declares me righteous in God’s sight; free from the condemnation of sin, the fear of death, and accusations of the devil. Hebrews 2:14-15

Hebrews 2:14-15 14 “Since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the

power of death—that is, the devil— 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.” Hebrews 2:14-15

*The imputed righteousness of Christ is a gift; it cannot be earned. *This gift can only be received from a grateful heart by faith alone.

Matthew 11:28-29 28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and

humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”  Matthew 11:28-29

Jesus:give rest = justificationWe: find rest = sanctification

RIGHTEOUSNESS

Impute – justification (give rest)Impart – sanctification (find rest)

*A little faith (even the size of a mustard seed) will take your soul to Heaven.*Great faith will bring Heaven to your soul!(Allowing Him to live in you)

1 Peter 2:24

24 “Jesus Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness.”

God imparts We partake We participate

*Imputed righteousness –you have no participation in the event.*Imparted righteousness – you do participate in the process.

Impartation is Christ releasing within us His very life so that moment-by-moment we may experience His presence enabling us to make righteous choices.

Get Thin, Stay Thinby Arthur W. Halliday, MD and Judy Halliday, RN*This book addresses the silent hunger of the starving soul. (the Bread of Life)

The miracle of His presence! If we invite God in, He will speak to our souls, not in words but in the way Love expresses itself – by His presence!

*God’s grace empowers us to choose rightly, to choose righteousness.*His grace brings our character into agreement with His character.

The miracle of His presence in our lives brings about our transformation.Only God can transform a life by imparting His righteousness to us.

*His grace brings freedom that conforms us from within.

*Legalism is bondage that constrains us from without.

Legalism tells us to shape up and that is a deception from God’s enemy because nothing from the outside can create a pure heart.

You can’t have perfect behavior when you have an impure heart.

The Law was never meant to make us righteous but to: 1) reveal the impurity of our hearts and 2) reveal our desperate need for a Savior.

The Law taught us the behavior befitting a right relationship with the Holy of Holies and it also produced irremediable distress.

But God’s progressive revelation paints a different picture: it places guilt in the heart of man.

The Gospel shows the impossibility of a man with an impure heart of being able to wipe out his guilt through perfect living.

Therefore, our remedy cannot come from man but only from a gracious God Who grants forgiveness to those who confess their guilt instead of attempting

to justify themselves.

*If you fear intimacy with God it makes it difficult to receive His grace.
