Clearpond Bulk Filter MediaSuitable For: Filtration product for Garden Ponds, Koi Ponds, Aquaculture and Air Control Units.
Clearpond Koi Filter Mat
Uses include filtering Koi ponds and air control units. Japanese filter mat is highly regarded for four reasons: the large specific surface area, high volume flow (no clogging), the quick start up of bacterial fauna and nitrification process and great durability. The secret of the surface area of the Koi filter mat lies in the surface of the individual fibres, the surface is ‘frosted’ on the outer layer of the coarse fibres to facilitate the nesting of the individual bacteria. The high porosity binder gives additional surface area to increase the nitrification process. The rigid and durable structure makes the filter mat easy to cut and easy to clean. The absence of chlorine and other toxic substances creates optimal micro climate for bacteria, making this an ideal mat for your pond.

POND & DAM LINER ACCESSORIES
Gold Label Underwater SealerSuitable For: Sealing & Joining just about anything to everything, even underwater!
Gold Label is a unique, almost magical product. As the name suggests it will seal & bond just about everything to everything, including vinyl, rockery, coral, decking, concrete, PVC and EPDM pond liners, glass, wood, stone, ceramic, slate, the list goes on and on. The magic is that it will do this even underwater! Make repairs to your gutters and roofs or fix leaks in your chlorinated swimming pool, marine or freshwater aquarium & your garden pond; without having to remove the fish or plants and not needing to drain them either. You can even use it to stick coral onto living rock.
It is non-toxic to fish & aquatic plants, inert, solvent & isocyanate free, cures underwater and has 4 times the bond strength of silicon.
Gold Label Underwater Sealer is not silicon or polyurethane based, it is a modified polymer or also called a M.S polymer.
For best results clean all surfaces, free of grease, algae, dust etc. Place sealer directly onto the surface you wish to bond/seal. For bonding where there is movement (expansion & Contraction) of different substrates, leave a minimum 2mm thickness of bead between surfaces. Where there is livestock near the sealer, protect from ingestion while curing. Full cure 24 hours. Initial tack 2-3 hours. Can be painted over after up to 4 hours.
For Clear Gold Label Sealer, leave a minimum 5mm bead between surfaces. For joining liner, use two beads 150mm apart and leave to cure for 36 hours at ambient temperature and for a patch, run a continuous bead around the edge of the patch and gently press into place. DO NOT PRESS FLAT.
Use a 5mm bead for optimum cure and bond strength. Initial cure 24 hours, continuing to harden up to 7 days. For use on concrete, first use a suitable primer.
Available in 290ml tube in either Black (cp. ref #22633) or Clear (cp. ref #22634). Used with a silicon gun (Not provided).
Clearpond Bottom DrainMany pond builders have found adding bottom drains helps keep a pond cleaner. Fish waste & other muck that accumulates on pond bottom in larger liner ponds and lakes, can be easily removed by a bottom drain. Ponds that are over 70cm deep can become stagnant without a bottom drain.
• Heavy duty, roto moulded design offers superior strength.• Threaded centre stand pipe securely attaches dome lid to base.• 16 stainless steel screws securely attaches liner ring to base with water tight seal
through liner.• 4” schedule PVC fittings & pipe for no blockage issues.• Optional air diffuser screws into dome lid. Incoming air is delivered up through the
centre stand pipe allowing air tubing to be installed under liner.• Optional air tubing adaptor is ½”, recommended air flow through diffuser is 15-45
cubic litres per minute.

Allow 24 hours for drying between coats. PondShield Starter is not suitable for waterproofing where reverse hydrostatic pressure exists and therefore cannot be applied to ‘green’ concrete or where moisture is present. Pondshield Starter cures by loss of moisture so the product can only be used where conditions allow adequate drying. PondShield Starter requires a minimum of 10 days curing time prior to filling with water.

CLEARPOND PondShield ProSuitable For: Professional finish seal of concrete ponds or brick aquaculture tanks and any areas of rising damp.
PondShield Pro is a two component epoxy polyamide membrane/barrier coating. Non-toxic to fish and safe for use in potable (drinking) water applications. Unlike most other sealers PondShield Pro can be applied to damp surfaces, even freshly laid, hardened ‘green’ concrete. It has excellent adhesion qualities to most substrates including brick, masonry, concrete block, concrete, stone and timber. The finish will be a semi-gloss black going to matt black with aging. Application tools are easily cleaned using water. Pondshield Pro is a long term, high quality sealant for your pond, waterfeature, retaining wall, tunnel or area which has rising damp.
CP Ref No. Description
22059 PondShield-Pro 4 litre (2 x 2 litre parts) will treat 6 square metres using 2 recommended coats.
22058 PondShield-Pro 20 litre (2 x 10 litre parts) will treat 30 square metres using 2 recommended coats.
Clearpond PondShield Starter and Clearpond PondShield Pro Information:
The pot life of Pondshield Starter and Pondshield Pro, once they have been opened, is 12 months, as long as they are kept sealed in a cool, dry area. PondShield Pro, should only be mixed when needed and only the required amount should be mixed at any one time. It should not be stored pre-mixed and then reused. The required amount of product must be poured from the original container into an empty ice cream container or other vessel and then used. The paintbrush should not be dipped in and out of the original container as bacteria will cause the product to go off. It is important to mix Pondshield Pro thoroughly to ensure the two parts are perfectly mixed. Also ensure that the correct thickness of the pond sealant is achieved, if the sealants are applied too thinly a waterproof barrier will not be achieved. Any “sharp” angles in the pond should be smoothed out with render prior to sealing.
PONDSHIELD PRO CAN BE APPLIED EVEN ON DAMP
SURFACES AND IS LESS THAN HALF
THE COST OF FIBRE GLASSING.

INFORMATION
POND DESIGN
The following points should be noted before placing a pond in your garden:
1) Avoid areas with overhanging trees that drop leaves, nuts and pollen into the pond. Also be aware of trees that have invasive roots as these can damage the pond’s construction material.
2) Areas that are subject to flooding and runoff should be avoided as the water flooding into the pond brings with it sand and nutrient which will foul the pond.
3) Ensure the pond receives at least half a day of sunlight as this encourages plant growth.
4) Make sure an electricity supply with enough power outlets to cover all of the pond equipment plus 1 or 2 spare outlets is located close by and has an RCD (Residual Current Device) fitted or has one fitted to the mains supply. Remember to always unplug all pond equipment if you are going to be servicing the pond.
5) If children are likely to be around the pond it is a good idea for the pond to be positioned where it can be seen unhindered from the house. Also have a wide, shallow planted area around the pond, have the pond above ground or have a fence around it. Please check with local council and shire regulations in regards to ponds before setting one up.
One of the largest dictators in regards to the pond shape is the amount of space you wish to allocate for your pond.
When this has been decided you can now look at pond shape; complex or overly irregular shapes should be avoided as this will result in excess folds and creases when using pond liner and this will also create “dead spots” where water cannot circulate correctly causing the area to become stagnant.
Before you start digging it is good idea to lay rope, hose or use sand outlined into the shape of the pond you require and then mark with spray paint so that the pond is visually constructed before any digging has begun, this allows you to easily increase or decrease the size of the pond without digging more or back filling!
When building a pond the type of fish and plants you wish to keep in there needs to be considered. Plants such as water lilies and lotus need quite deep water and fish such as koi require large areas to swim in but also deep areas to keep cool in over summer.
Plant ledges may need to added to the pond for the housing of shallow water loving species of plants such as irises and rushes and if you would like to set up a pond for frogs then an area that is gently sloping into the pond is needed for easy access for the frogs to get in and out of the pond.
Now you have marked out the shape of you pond, let the digging begin!
Equipment recommendations are generally based on the size of the pond, what effects you wish to achieve and what type of fish you want to keep. The following points should be noted when specifying pond equipment.
A “general” rule of thumb is to turn the pond’s volume over once every 1 to 2 hours and more often for koi or heavily stocked ponds.
Pumps and filtration should be run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Pond equipment should be purchased that is suited for the pond it is to be used on and it also must be compatible with each other. It is better to purchase pond equipment that it a little bit larger than what is required for the ponds volume as fish grow and breed, larger filtration and pumping equipment will cope with the excess nutrients and you save on subsequent upgrading.
Preformed ponds should be allowed to “settle” for around 7 days before the landscaping around the pond is completed, this allows for any movement under and around the pond due to the weight of the water.
We recommend pond pumps should not be hard wired; if a pump needs to be removed for cleaning, sent off for maintenance or replaced, an electrician needs to be contacted to remove the pump and this can be time consuming and expensive.
If the water passes through an Ultra Violet Clarifier (UVC) first before going into the filter, the UVC should

POND MAINTENANCE
be left off for the first 3-4 weeks of setting up your pond so beneficial bacteria can grow and establish in the filter.
An Ultra Violet Clarifier (UVC) should never be run without water running through it; the heat caused by the lamp can deteriorate the plastic surrounds and perish O’rings.
When starting a new pond or adding more fish, bacteria kick starters or boosters such as Clearpond Biostarter and Clearpond Bacteria can be added to the pond and directly into the filter to start the bacterial colonisation process and to boost existing bacteria to cope with the increase in waste produced by new fish.
It is best to use the largest diameter hose available and a general rule of thumb is to use the same size hose that matches the outlet on the pump. Friction loss calculators should be used when water is to be pumped over long distances (5 metres plus) or to large heights.
Ball or non-return valves should not be used on pond pumps. When a pump is to be mounted externally it should be placed below the water level so the intake to the pump is always flooded, so if the power ever stops the pump can restart easily.
If the pump produces more flow than what is needed, it is better to install a T-piece and valve in line to return the excess water to the pond rather than using just a valve to restrict the pumps flow. Restricting the pumps flow can result in back pressure being put on the pump causing pump failure.
The following are a few tips to help you with the ongoing maintenance of your pond and remember regular maintenance is better than doing a massive clean every year:
• Filter materials should be cleaned in buckets (free of herbicides and pesticides) of pond water and the dirty water should be discarded onto the garden.
• Chlorinated tap water should never be used to clean the filter material as the chlorine in the tap water kills the beneficial bacteria in the filter.
• When replacing the filter materials it is better to stagger the change over a few weeks so all the bacteria is not discarded in one hit.
• When changing the water or topping up the pond a de-chlorinator should always be used.
• An Ultra Violet Clarifier (UVC) lamp should be replaced every year, even though the lamp works they lose their efficiency after approximately one year. Clearpond recommends Philips UVC lamps as they are rated for 9000 hours of use, far more than other brands on the market.
• Water features should be topped up only every so often – it is better to empty the feature and refill the feature with fresh, clean water. As the feature’s water evaporates, salts and minerals are left behind and this build up can cause pumps and filtration equipment to fail, replacing the water will help eliminate this.
• Chlorine should never be used to clean a pond or treat algae, it is so harsh that it will deteriorate the waterfeature and pond pumps etc voiding any warranty claims.

POND CARE - SEASONAL
SUMMER.* Feed your fish more; as their metabolism speeds up,
they will require more food.
* Keep an eye on your fish for signs that there is a lack of oxygen in the pond – add an air pump to prevent this.
* As soon as a drop in water flow is noticed, the filter and pump will need to be cleaned, maintenance on your pond equipment over summer is very important as more waste will be produced by the fish and therefore the filter will block quicker.
* Water change your pond, no more than a third at a time, remember topping up is not a water change!
* Oxygen is essential in your pond, ensure you have plenty of air going into your pond; air pumps, fountains, water courses and waterfalls not only look good, they help add oxygen to the pond.
AUTUMN.* Plants can stop being fertilised, they will begin go
dormant soon and will not require as much nutrient.
* Leaves that have fallen into the pond from surrounding trees should be removed.
* Sediment built up over summer should be removed.
* Pond plants can be separated and re-potted.
* Give your pond pump and filter a thorough “end of summer” clean.
* As your fishes metabolism slows, they will slow down and become easy prey for birds, adding pond netting or a Pongard to your pond will help prevent bird predation.
WINTER.* Remove dead or dying lily and marginal leaves and
stems.
* Reduce feeding your fish as their metabolism will be quite low and they do not require as much food.
* Winter is probably the best time to install a pond or water feature, that way it is settled and running smoothly by the time summer returns.
* Remove rotting leaf litter and debris from the pond.
* In cold areas, pond pumps should be moved closer to the pond’s surface as mixing deeper cold water with warmer surface water can chill your fish causing unnecessary stress.
SPRING.* If you have a UVC, now is a good time to replace the
lamp.
* Any o’rings in your pump, filter and UVC should be removed and lubricated or replaced if they have deteriorated.
* Check your fishes health, excess fish and baby fish can be moved on to shops or friends.
* Pond plants can be fertilised for maximum summer growth and flowering.
* Check your pond’s water quality, any measurements that need correcting can be done now.
* Debris and leaves should be removed as the water will begin to warm as summer approaches and these pollutants will rapidly foul the water if left in the pond.

DRY INSTALLATION GUIDE.Proper plumbing selection and setup is important when choosing to install a pond pump externally. The flooded suction is the only “safe’ way to install a pond pump, this is where the pump is situated outside the pond below the water level and the water flows by gravity to the pump.
Pond pumps are unable to be installed outside above the water level of the pond as they are unable to draw the water up into the pump, should the power ever fail the pump would burn itself out trying to draw water. Some points to note when externally mounting a pond pump:
* If a pump is to be dry installed it must be mounted externally below the water level so the intake is always flooded.
* Do not use spring loaded non-return valves as pond pumps do not have the power to activate these.
“ Ball” type non-return valves should never be used on pond pumps as they do not have the power to keep the valve open, PVC swing check valves are a better alternative.
* The pump should be situated no greater than 1 metre from the pond.
* The inlet fitting of the pump should be the same diameter as the pipe from the pond to the pump; narrow pipe diameters cause friction loss and unnecessary damage to the pump.
* A grid or strainer must be placed inside the pond on the suction pipe of the pump to ensure no dirt or debris can foul the impeller of the pump; the strainer holes must be of a diameter specified by the manufacturer.

WATER QUALITY INFORMATION
THE NITROGEN CYCLE.One of the most integral parts of maintaining a fish pond is having a basic understanding of the Nitrogen Cycle.
Simply put the Nitrogen Cycle of a pond or aquarium is a chain reaction in nature resulting in the “birth” of various types of nitrifying bacteria, each with their own job to do. Each new bacterium born consumes the previous one, and in turn gives birth to the next bacteria and so on.
The three components involved in this process are ammonia (NH³ or NH³+4), nitrite (NO²), and nitrate (NO³). The Nitrogen Cycle takes approximately 30 days to complete, but there is no set time frame as each pond or aquarium is different. Factors such as how many fish, other livestock, and organic matter present in the water body can vary the completion time.
The first stage of the Nitrogen Cycle is the production of ammonia, ammonia comes from fish waste, excess food and decaying organic matter from both plants and livestock. In order to begin this process hardy and healthy fish can be added to the pond but only a few to begin with, their waste produces ammonia in the water and so the cycle begins.
The second stage of the Nitrogen Cycle begins at around day 10, the nitrifying bacteria that convert ammonia into nitrite, nitrosomonas, should begin to appear and build. As the bacteria begins to build and breakdown the ammonia present in the water the nitrite reading (tested with a test kit) will peak at around day 20 and will begin to drop off after that.
The third stage of the Nitrogen Cycle involves converting nitrite into nitrate which is converted by nitrobacter bacteria, these bacteria require oxygen and food (an ammonia source) to grow and survive. The waste that these nitrobacter bacteria produce is shown in the form of nitrate on a test kit.
When nitrate readings begin to increase, you can tell that these beneficial nitrifying bacteria are starting to establish themselves, which is what you have painstakingly been going through the cycling process to achieve.
Using a test kit to test for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate can help “predict” how long the Nitrogen Cycle can take, Oase’s Water Analysis Profi Set tests for these factors plus many other water quality parameters. Using Clearpond Bacteria and Bio-Starter can help aid in establishing bacterial colonies and ease the transition of the Nitrogen Cycle.
WATER HARDNESS.“A measurement of dissolved salts & minerals in water.”
Total Hardness (TH) also known as General Hardness (GH) = (KH + PH) temporary & permanent hardness. KH is measured in degrees – 1 degree = 10mg of calcium or magnesium oxide (salt) per litre of water. KH = measurement of calcium carbonate. TH = measurement of all salts. PH = measurement of magnesium carbonate sulphate.
TH is also measured in Microseimans per centimetre.
DEGREES OF HARDNESS: 0 – 4 degrees = very soft, 4 – 8 degrees = soft, 8 – 12 degrees = medium/hard, 12 – 18 degrees = fairly hard, 18 – 30 degrees = hard, 30 degrees plus = very hard.
Parts per thousand (PP) = grams per kilogram = grams per litre.
IDEAL POND VALUES:pH – 6.8 – 8.0
Total Hardness (TH) – 15 degrees dH or conductivity 500 – 800 microsiemens.
Oxygen (02) – minimum 80% at 20 degrees Celsius.
Carbonate Hardness (KH) – 5 KH.
Nitrite (NO2) – Maximum 0.15 mg/l.
Nitrate (NO3) – Maximum 50 mg/l.
Ammonium (NH3+4) – Ammonium NH2 maximum 0.2 mg/l,
Ammonia NH3 - Maximum 0.01 mg/l.

Calculating Required Flowrates for Clearpond Sheer Descent Spillways1. Determine how long your unit is.
2. Measure how high it is above water level.
3. Decide on an approximate projection between 100mm and 300mm from the wall.
4. Divide the length of your descent by 300 and this will determine by how much you need to times that by with the L/min (litres per minute) value on the bottom axis. That calculation will give you the approximate flow of pump required.
5. Example: a 1200mm descent 900mm high with a proposed projection of 300mm (normal installation). 1200 ÷ 300 = 4
6. 45L/min x 4 = 180. This means you will need a pump that can pump 180L/min at 900mm high. Don’t forget you will have restrictions of flow such as elbows and plumbing and a 2-way or 3-way valve to control the flow, and a non-return valve in some installations.

Installing your Clearpond Sheer Descent - 25mm lipTake care not to damage the Clearpond Sheer Descent during installation. It is best to keep it in its original packaging until you are ready to begin the actual installation. Do not leave uninstalled Sheer Descent in direct sunlight.
The Sheer Descent is shipped complete with grout guard fitted in the opening of the waterfall to keep the spillway opening clean and to prevent damage.
IMPORTANT: Do not remove the protective grout guard until you are ready to start up for the first time. Leave it in place throughout the installation or damage may occur which will effect the performance.
Installing your Clearpond Sheer Descent - 25mm lip
The pool tiler usually installs the Sheer Descent waterfall.
Be sure to install the waterfall before any decks or coping are to cover the Sheer Descent.
Place the Sheer Descent in the pre-cut notch in the brick work (see top left), then level the top of the unit to the top of the brick work using tile shims underneath the unit if necessary.
Note: the opening and grout guard are located at the top of the Sheer Descent. Fill the gaps around the unit with suitable mastic material. Cut tiles to fit beneath the lip of the unit and secure with tiling compound.
Fibre Optic and LED units
These instructions are based on a basic unit.
Fibre Optic and LED units are available and if you are installing one of these, add a further 25mm at the top of the unit when cutting the recess for the unit.
Fibre Optic Units have a chamber at the top of the water blade where the fibres are introduced in the main manifold. Tile shims may be used to level the top of the unit.
LED connections to the spill can be either rear or bottom mounted so allowance must be made for the extra space taken up by the connection.
The Light Engine should be mounted as close to the Sheer Descent as possible, in an accessible area so the light array may be altered or for service of the unit. Do not for any reason cut the Fibre Optic or LED cables.
IMPORTANT: Do not remove the grout guard until installation is complete.

INFORMATION
Cutting the brick work 1. For Sheer Descent models 300mm to 1200 mm long with 25mm lip.
After choosing the position for the Sheer Descent, cut a notch in the brick work 85mm deep by 65mm wide and 50mm longer than the length of the Sheer Descent (i.e. 25mm each end). For example, if you are installing the 1200mm model cut the notch 1250mm (1200 + 25 + 25 mm) long. Then mark a single slot in the centre and on top of the brick 65mm wide by 85mm deep.
Use this notch to plumb 40mm PVC pipe to the Sheer Descent. Mark the brick work and cut it accordingly.
Do not apply torque to fittings. Keep all piping supported so as not to stress the rear of the unit or fitting.
2. For Sheer Descent models 1500 to 2400 mm long (dual feed).
Longer waterfalls need more water, therefore cut two plumbing lines. Mark and cut the brick as above, except that you now need two notches on the top of the brick for piping. Mark the top of the brick for these units as below.
Length Of Unit Position Of Dual Feed Pipes
1500mm 375mm either side of centre
1800mm 450mm either side of centre
2400mm 600mm either side of centre
Complete the cuts in the brick before moving on to the next stage.
3. Installation of 150-230mm Lip extension Units
Place the Sheer Descent unit on the flat, smooth, level surface in the correct location. Set it on the brick or concrete wall using cement or flexible adhesive.
If you wish to install the unit so it sits flush with the top of the wall or bricks, mark the desired position and cut a recess into the top of the wall allowing the 25mm each end as stated previously and also allow for 10mm above and below the lip. Allow 25mm above the lip for a Fibre Optic Unit instead of 10mm.
Fill the area above and below the lip with suitable flexible adhesive.
Keep the waterfall unit shielded from the sun until the finishing coping has been positioned.
Do not apply torque to fittings. Support all the piping so that the rear of the unit or fitting is not stressed.
Waterfall Flow Volume
Note: When you are plumbing more than one waterfall, add the total length of waterfalls together to determine the flowrate required. E.g. When plumbing two 1800mm units, you now have 3,600mm of waterfall, which needs 540 litres/min.
See flowchart (page 88) to select the preferred volume of water flow, depending on how far forward you want the water sheet to project and how high your unit is above water level.

INFORMATION
INFORMATION
Options for pump size and installationThe Sheer Descent can provide a continuous sheet of water with a minimum rate of water flow.
A standard 1200mm model, for example, requires only 180 litres of water per minute to project the blade of water 300mm at a height of 900mm. Installing with existing pool filter pump in place
The most common plumbing system consists of using the existing main pool filter pump to supply the waterfall. This works well with a very small water flow. A correctly sized swimming pool pump will normally operate the Sheer Descent and the pool filter at the same time with little change in overall flowrate.
As a rule of thumb, the Clearpond Sheer Descent requires about 45L/min per 300mm of width with little head loss. However, you can increase the water flowrate to make a more a dramatic effect and to project the water sheet further out from the wall.
Install a three-way valve on the line returning water from the filter to the pool and connect it to the waterfall feed line with 40mm PVC pressure pipe. Waterfalls more than 1500mm wide require at least a 50mm PVC feed pipe.
Note: Use minimum of 40mm pipe. Use minimum of 50mm pipe for runs of more than 20m or if waterfall is more than 1500mm wide. Use dedicated plumbing lines.
Plumbing in the Clearpond Sheer Descent.
Return line: The feed line from either the main pump or a separate pump requires at least 40mm PVC pipe. Use a 50mm line for waterfalls wider than 1.5m. Place the end point of the feed line near the centre of the waterfall at the rear of the bond beam.
When using the existing filter pump, install a 3-way valve as the “T” from the return line of the pool to the Sheer Descent. Place it in an accessible position on the feed line so that you can control the flowrate of water to the Sheer Descent as well as to the rest of the pool. The best place for this valve is usually just after the filter near the equipment pad.
Filter all water supplied to the Sheer Descent. If you have a dedicated pump for the Sheer Descent you must use a separate filter to keep debris out of the unit.
Standard 40mm PVC fittings will fasten to the 40mm fitting provided on all Sheer Descent units using standard PVC solvent cement.
To ensure fittings are properly bonded when gluing, clean both pipe and fittings before applying solvent cement, smear both parts with solvent cement and slightly twist the pipe when pushing it into the fitting. Priming fluid may be used if desired.
Note: You should install a flow control valve in an accessible position on the supply line to regulate the water supply to the Sheer Descent.

Installing multiple units
You can install multiple Sheer Descent units in exactly the same way as for a single unit except that you will need to include a separate 2-way valve for each unit. These valves are used to control the amount and distribution of water between each of the waterfall units. Use minimum 50mm PVC pipe with regulating valves for 1,500mm and wider.
Starting up your Sheer Descent
The Sheer Descent is ready to be started as soon as the swimming pool is finished and filled with water and all glue and/or fixing adhesives are given sufficient time to dry. Remove the protective grout guard now and make sure the opening is clean and free from debris before diverting water into the waterfall.
Now switch the pump on. If you are using the main pool pump to supply the waterfall let it run for a few minutes to clear all debris out of the lines. Then slowly open the valve and allow water to flow to the Sheer Descent unit. Using the 3-way valve, adjust the water flowrate until the sheet of water projects on to the surface of the swimming pool.
After a few minutes all air should have been cleared from the lines and the Sheer Descent should now provide a continuous sheet of water.
If you have installed a separate pump, be certain to open all valves before starting the pump. Make sure all lines are clear of debris, then start the pump and let water circulate through the filter and return system. Close the valve to he waterfall slowly until it has reached your desired flowrate. Wait for a few minutes until all air has been forced out of the pipes.
Winterisation
In areas where a heavy frost is likely, drain water from the system during winter.
In these areas, the plumbing should be designed for ease of draining water. The Sheer Descent is designed so that only a minimum of water stays in the unit when the plumbing is installed correctly.
For winterising, blow all lines clear of water and follow normal procedures such as covering the pool.
Trouble shooting
1. Check that the pump system is switched on and working normally.
2. Make sure all air is purged from the lines
3. Make sure all filters and strainers are cleaned
4. Make sure valves have not been tampered with
Problem Cause Solution
Waterfall is not completely smooth – there is a gap in the water sheet.
Debris has collected in the manifold and is stuck behind the opening.
Place a credit card or similar slim object inside the opening while the waterfall is running. Slide it along to where the debris is and gently pull it out.
One waterfall is stronger thananother (where there are more than one waterfall).
Water supply not correctly balanced.
Adjust 3-way valves until balance correct.
