CALLOUT STEPS

•  Set it up with context •  Be specific about what you’re asking for •  Think about whether and how you would answer •  Provide examples •  What sort of demographic data do you want?

Honing the question

•  Get creative •  Think small •  Ask for help

Sharing it

•  If you have a lot of answers, recruit help •  Develop a flagging/categorizing system •  Reply to everyone who submitted, where possible

Presenting it on air and online

•  Be prepared and don’t overpromise •  Be as “surgical” as possible •  Seed it beforehand •  Think about how someone will feel after they read your callout •  Be transparent •  Use an auto-reply •  Don’t be afraid to “flood the zone” and ask for help
