TED Talk by Simon Sinek

Why some teams pull together and others don’t?

Because their employees feel safe under their leaders

Because they have the feeling that they would have done it for me too

Where does this feeling come from?

It comes from Trust and Cooperation

In the Paleolithic era, world was filled with danger

We lived together in the circle of safety, developed trust and cooperation and thus felt safe.

During wrong conditions we spend time protecting ourselves that weakens the organization.

When a leader puts the people inside the organization first, employees feel safe

Thus, employees shouldn’t have the fear of losing the job

Employees Feel safe

Willing to combine their talents and

strengths

Face the danger outside and seize the

opportunity

Would you layoff your child if it failed?

Then why lay off people inside our organization?

Be a parent

Give them opportunities

Coach them

Build trust and confidence

Achieve more

Sacrifice numbers to

save people not people to save

numbers

SO, WHAT IS

?

The leader is the one who chooses to look after the people around him/her

They choose to sacrifice so that their people may be safe and protected

Be a leader, not an authority

Natural response – people will sacrifice for you

Because they feel that their leader would have done it for them too

In a nutshell

Leaders should take risk first

Make employees feel safe

Natural Response - Trust and Cooperation

Increased output and healthy culture

Therefore, be a leader not an authority!
