Detach yourself from your actions. Now the reason why youre going to do this is totake the emotion out of what is actuallyhappening so youll be able to look at yourbehaviors and actions differently. 20. Youre going to study these actions andbehaviors in a detached way. Note: So to get the best results from thisprocess, youre going to be compassionate toyourself . This is not the time to judge yourselfor beat yourself up for your these actions andbehaviors youre observing. 21. Step 2Next, I want you to write down the feelings and emotions that are associated with the food behaviors and actions that youve observed. This is so you can tune into yourself and later learn to take ownership. I want you to note what feelings and emotions were present during any food related action or behavior that has occurred. I want you to ask yourself: What were your emotional needs at time I observed myself doing XYZ? What was really going on internally? 22. Hint: When youve identified some emotionaltriggers, you can start to identify your foodrelated actions and behaviors before theyoccur. And when the emotion comes upagain, youll be armed and can begin tocontrol your food behavior and actions. 23. Example: The phone rings, and its your boss.You have been called in to work on your day off.You are irritated, disappointed and stressed outbecause you had things planned that you wantedto do. Before you know it, youve eaten 2 cookiesand youre headed for the chocolate. Trigger: phone call changing your plans Emotion: stress, anger, disappointment Action/behavior: you unconsciously went for thejunk food 24. Step 3And finally, Im going to share 3 rarely taught ways to stabilize your emotions and stress without food. This is very important in your outcome.3 emotional stabilizers: Look at a photo album. This give you happy memories and brings joy into your life. Go outside; go for a 5 minute brisk walk, or stretch your arms upward and shout I feel good several times. Turn on your favorite song and sing it with passion or turn up the volume and dance like crazy!These are all great substitutes for emotional eating. 25.
