OverviewMy name is Rashmi (rush-me) Chhetri.I started school in mid 1980s in Meghalaya, India.

I graduated from high school in year 2000 from Central School, India.

I first went to college at College of Engineering, Bhubaneswar, India in 2000.

I joined the Master’s ETEC program at College of Education, University of Hawaii.

When I finish my degree, I hope to become a teacher who actively uses instructional design skills to improve education in class.

My Definition of Educational TechnologyEducational Technology for me is not about the new or old tool and technology but the process of designing and refining instructional strategies to effectively incorporate current tools into curriculum so that we can prepare our students to be 21st century learners.

Kindergarten Technology

Classrooms were the traditional type with teacher-centered learning through chalks and blackboards.

The only technology that I saw was the old black & white television at home.

High School TechnologyTechnology in High school was basically textbooks, workbooks, pen and pencil and a bag to carry all that load.

Yearly seminars and featured movies for students were the only time I saw a little bit of technology in the form of video cassette player, a projector, TV etc.

College Technology

Pentium IV computers for programming.

No or limited access to internet and web resources.

Classrooms were still the same with no technology

A Technology I Want to Use in my Classroom

Electronic simulation (e-Sim) that emulates real world problems using the theory of situated cognition.Learners understand, collaborate, interact and evaluate the problem adopting various role plays.

My Vision of the Classroom of the Future

Education in future should help students relate theories learned in class to practical real-world situations using the ideas of situated cognition.

A Challenge for Teaching

Challenges would mostly be to understand and differentiate the use of technology in class and the effective integration of technology in elements of curriculum to provide current knowledge to learners.

Words of Wisdom

The great aim of education is not knowledge, but action.
