Thinking Like A Scientist

The Pirates are enjoying our new unit on Growth. We have

been learning interesting things this week that we would

like to share with you.

What Is A Scientist?

“A person that makes something that makes the Earth better.”

“Someone that does Science and is an expert at it.”

“He makes cool things like experiments about

crystals and water.”

“A person that investigates stuff that look weird. He sees

what it is like putting it in a machine. He also does

research on the computer.”

“A scientist is someone that is smart. He know all about

something like plants, dinosaurs, and bones in our

body.”

What Is A Scientist?

What Makes Me A Scientist?

“I talk about how my monggo seeds are growing. I see inside the seed is a white thing that is coming up. It looks like an oval

with a stem coming out.”

What Makes Me A Scientist?

“I grow plants like my popcorn seeds and watermelon seeds in my home. I can tell you that my

popcorn seed has grown five inches and the roots have grown longer. I also see that the stem has grown and there are two

green leaves.”

What Makes Me A Scientist?“I see things that are growing

around the school. I pick some dead leaves from the floor and I put it in my Pirate Scientist book.

My papaya plant is growing a little. I can see green things

coming out of the soil. I think there are roots and stems coming

out of my pot.”

What Makes Me A Scientist?“In the nature walk, I was observing:

I saw a cool leaf, it was thin. I was thinking Why is it thin?

I saw an o-shaped leaf with a little hole. I was trying to find out, What does the

hole mean? I also saw two different kinds of grass. One

was fake and the other was real. The real grass felt muddy and the fake grass felt

plastic.”
