People give thanks for the harvest and everything they have got.

The first time it was celebrated was in 1621.

Pilgrims and American natives shared food.

It is a day for family and friends.

People get together for a special meal.

The typical food on this day is: Roast turkey. Mashed potatoes and carrots. Green beans. Raspberry sauce. Apple pie. Carrot pie or pumpkin pie.

On Thanksgiving Day there are parades in some cities and towns.

Some people have a four-day weekend for visiting their families.
