The PreteriteTense

El Pretérito:is a past tense (“-ed”)

talks about what happened is a completed action action repeated specific number of times action that has a clear beginning and/or ending

In order to conjugate in preterite tense, you will use the same system

as present tense:

Tomar—in present we keep the stem which is TOMThen we add the appropriate ending

EX Present: Tomar(yo)= TomoEX Preterite: Tomar(yo)= Tomé

Pretérito endings for -ar verbs are:

Yo é

Tú aste

El Ella Ud ó

Nosotros amos

Ellos Ellas Uds

Pretérito endings for –er / -ir verbs are:

Yo í

Tú iste

El, Ella, Ud

Nosotros imos

Ellos, Ellas, Uds

Remember:

Accents marks on the él/ella/Ud formAlso, the nosotros form of er/ir verbs

is the same as present tense. You will rely on context to know the

difference in meaning.
