As an educator, I believe it is essential to develop a positive classroom climate at the onset of the school year.
To achieve this objective, I work hard to set a positive tone that elicits excitement as well as a clear
understanding of my expectations for both parents and students. Below is my statement of educational
philosophy as well as sample handouts both parents and students receive during the first week of the school year.

I strive to constantly communicate with parents throughout the school year. Often times this includes sending emails or postcards home, as well as detailed
information about upcoming activities. Additionally, I put assignment due dates and handouts online for parents to
access at their convience.

Utilizing a multitude of instructional strategies, I strive to constantly differentiate my instruction to meet the unique
needs of the individual learners within my classroom. Attached are a variety of lesson plans I have written for

The Kansas Performance Assessment is a written account of a multi-week teaching unit created and implemented by each new teacher in the state of Kansas. Grading is
based on successful completion of 7 criterion identified by the Kansas State Department of Education as necessary
for proper instruction. I completed mine in 2008 and received a score of 116/116.

Hands-on active learning activities are a staple in my classroom. I utilize a variety of instructional strategies to keep students engaged in our course objectives. Students demonstrate learning through formative and summative
assessments, including class discussion, writing, projects, and testing. A sampling of student work is shown on the
