As an educator, I believe it is essential to develop a positive classroom climate at the onset of the school year.

To achieve this objective, I work hard to set a positive tone that elicits excitement as well as a clear

understanding of my expectations for both parents and students. Below is my statement of educational

philosophy as well as sample handouts both parents and students receive during the first week of the school year.

I strive to constantly communicate with parents throughout the school year. Often times this includes sending emails or postcards home, as well as detailed

information about upcoming activities. Additionally, I put assignment due dates and handouts online for parents to

access at their convience.

The Kansas Performance Assessment is a written account of a multi-week teaching unit created and implemented by each new teacher in the state of Kansas. Grading is

based on successful completion of 7 criterion identified by the Kansas State Department of Education as necessary

for proper instruction. I completed mine in 2008 and received a score of 116/116.
