Where Parliament now stands has been a centre of authority for over a thousand years.

The British Parliament is one of the oldest in the world.It consists of two Houses-The House of Commons and The

House of Lords.

The members of The House of Commons are elected for 5 years.

During the Second World War, The House of Commons was hit by bombs fourteen times.

The members of The House of Lords are not elected. They inherit this right.

There are two big towers on both sides of the Parliament. One of them is called Big Ben .Big Ben is really a bell. You can hear it every hour.

The first known royal palace was Edward the Confessor’s. Parliament still remains a royal palace and is called the ‘Palace of Westminster’

Westminster Hall is the oldest part of Parliament. Today the hall is often used for important State events such as the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.
