What do we really need? • a dedicated small team

• incentives for teachers (non only money: hours of work, rating, awards)

• a central strategy

• key peolple inside each department

• outside connections (a regional / national /european web of MOOCs?)

Do we really need MOOCs?

YES if we want

• Clever answer to the crisis (people)

• Great opportunity to enhance culture, skils, knowledge among people

• Clever answer to the crisis (Institution) BUT..

• Promotion of the Institution

• Help for the “standard” students

Do we really want MOOCs?

NOT if we want

• defend our garden (as teacher, as department, as university) and the traditional vision of the Academy

• put the (low) budget in the tradition

• preserve traditional education

• accept the power of bureaucracy inside the university

Can education be really massive and global?

• huge numbers (effective education?)

• huge numbers / students as numbers (distruptive innovation)

• english based and USA rule (another blow to cultural diversity)

• traditional universities and MOOCs are in natural competition (?)
