folk arts.

bedspreads to stunning items of

Lithuanian costume.

It was strongly believed that woven

materials reflect persons mentality.

Black pottery is one of the most widespread handicrafts

in Lithuania.

In XVIII century this ceramic type was widely popular in Dzūkija.

All of this pottery is black coloured, it sounds like a bell and is as firm as

metal.

Cross crafting

Lithuanian cross crafting is a traditional Lithuanian art of

crafting crosses.

The crosses combine elements of architecture, sculpture, blacksmith

art and painting.

They often feature floral or geometric symbols, motifs of the

sun, birds and the tree of life.

Lithuanian cross crafting has been enrolled into the list of

Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity of

2001 by UNESCO.

Hill of Crosses is a sight of pilgrimage near the city of Šiauliai,

in northern Lithuania.
