E. Rizal as a Linguist

Languages of Rizal

F. Rizal as a Doctor

-He studied medicine so that he could cure the eye problem of his mother.- Rizal get his licentiate in medicine when he studied at the Unibersidad central de madrid.-He was able to establish a clinic and hospital in Dapitan.

-He finished studying ophthalmology in the clinic of Dr. Louis Wecker.-He volunteered as Military Doctor in cuba.

G. Rizal as a Teacher

His exile in Dapitan gave him the opportunity to put into practice  his  educational  ideas.  In 1893,  he established a school which existed until the end of his exile in July 1896. It began with three pupils  and in the course of time the enrollment increased  to 16 and later 21. 

These pupils did not  pay  any tuition. Instead of charging them, he  made them work in his garden, fields and construction projects in the community. Rizal taught this boys how to: - Read - Write - Languages (Spanish and English) - Geography - History

- Mathematics( Arithmetic and Geometry)-Industrial Work-Nature Study-Morals -Gymnastic-Love work-Behave like men

H. Rizal as a Scientist and Inventor

-Rizal researched on new species such as insects, lizards, birds,snakes,frogs,shells and sent them to the museum in Europe.-He had a collection of concology consisted of 346 shells with 203 species.-He maintained a garden in Dapitan where he planted plants and experimented plants.

-In 1887, he invented a cigrrete lighter called "Sulpukan" made of wood.-He also invented machine used for making bricks.

-The species that Rizal discovered were named after him. = Draco Rizali (Flying dragon) = Apogania Rizali (Small beetle) = Rhacoporus Rizali (kind of frog)

I. Rizal as an Engineer

• Rizal held the title of expert surveyor,which he obtained in Ateneo. In Dapitan,he applied his knowledge of engineering by constructing a system of waterworks in order to furnish clean water to the town

• Rial spent many times draining the marshes in order to getrid of the malaria that infested in Dapitan. He equipped the town with its lighting system. It consist of:- coconut oil lamps-Electric lightning

• The Beautification of Dapitan. With the help of his former Jesuit teacher and friend,F.r Francisco Sanchez,he remodelled the town plaza in order to enhance its beauty.In front of the church,Rizal and Fr. Sanchez made a huge relief map of mindanao out of earth,stones and grass.

J. Rizal as a Farmer

- In Dapitan, Rizal bought 16 hectares of land in Talisay, where he built his home, school and hospital and planted cacao,coffee,sugarcane,coconuts,and other fruit bearing trees.-Later, the land holdings reached 70 hectares containing 6,000 hemp plants, 1,000 coconut trees, and numerous fruit trees.- He introduced modern agricultural methods to Dapitan farmers and imported agricultural machinery from United States.
