Learning Methods

Mastery Learning:All can learn, but each has a different way and different rate of learningUnder favorable conditions, individual differences diminishUncorrected learning errors are responsible for most learning difficulties.Time to learn must be adjusted to fit aptitudeStudents must demonstrate mastery on unit exams, typically 80%, before moving on to new material.

Summative AssessmentTypical examinations where a student is graded for right/wrong answers

Formative AssessmentStrength/weaknesses are identifiedGrading is not done. Instead, improvement areas are identified

Adaptive TestingIn a test, the difficulty level of the next question adjusts according to the response to the previous question.

Using Technology for Implementation

Mastery Learning was successful in classrooms, but, volume of tests were extremely laborious for the teachers

Formative Assessment showed excellent results as well, but, to design a learning for each individual is daunting
