Embedded questions

I’d rather (would rather) study English than
(study) French. If the verb is the same, it
usually is not repeated after than.
Would rather expresses PREFERENCE. The
base form of the verb follows both would
rather and than.

gone to the theater last night.
As for – used to refer to something or
someone.
My mother has never liked the farm. As for
my father, he would still be living there.
The ECCE exam is given in May. As for the
ECPE, you can take it in November in Brazil.

VERB PATTERNS:

REMEMBER SOME COMMON PHRASES:

“Do you think it’s going to rain?” “ I hope
not!.”
BUT...
“Are they sending us the email soon?” “I
think so.”
“Have they finished their reports yet?” “ I
don’t think so.
CONDITIONALS:
1) If you study hard, you pass this exam.
(Zero Conditional – Do X and Y happens as
a natural consequence).
2) If you study hard, you will pass this
exam. (Talking about a very likely situation
in the future. If you do X, Y will (certainly
happen). It’s a real situation
3) If you studied hard, you would pass this
exam. (Unreal situation in the present. If
you studied = You don’t studyand so it’s
very unlikely that you pass this exam.
If you had studied hard, you would have
passed this exam.
(Unreal about the past. If you had studied =
You didn’t study and consequently you didn’t
pass the exam. It’s impossible to change this
situation as the exam is over.
