DEMONSTRATION OR SHOWING METHOD

DEMONSTRATION OR SHOWING METHODIt is an exhibition and explanation of subject, theory, or commercial product, etc. By means of examples, experiments, displays or the like.

PURPOSE OF DEMONSTRATION

• Teaching a skill, concept or principle. • Delicate and dangerous experiments involving careful manipulation. • Experiments involving difficult and complex operations.

PURPOSE OF DEMONSTRATION • Use of costly apparatus. • Several experiments are to be performedin one period toestablish connections between them toderive conclusions. • Number of operations in an experiment are too many.

Advantages and disadvantages of demonstration or showing method

ADVANTAGES:• It is possible to instruct a reasonable

number of people in basic skills of agriculture at one time

• People attending can see, hear, discuss, and participate in the demonstration

• This results in much more complete learning than passively listening to a talk, even if illustrations are used to support it

• If properly carried out demonstrations can generate a great deal of interest and enthusiasm for a practice, as well as providing the skills required for it.

 DISADVANTAGES:

• If there are too many participants some of them may be unable to hear and see clearly what is being demonstrated and may adopt wrong techniques

• Many people may not be able to practice the skill demonstrated adequately due to shortage of time or facilities.

It is important to draw a clear distinction between method demonstrations and training courses. Because of the numbers present and the time available at method demonstrations, people may gain only a superficial knowledge of the procedure and may, therefore, be unable to apply it on their own successfully, without additional training. There are limits to what a person can learn at a method demonstration.
