Holiday work – music video 2

Ben Tresidder

Concept The second video I have chosen to analyse is ‘why’d you only call me when your high?’ The concept of this video is the lead singer, Alex Turner,

hallucinating as he walks out of a pub and along the dark streets of a city at night.

Technical

Similar the the last video I analysed, the tracking shot is used for the majority of the video. However in this video the camera moves about more to try and portray what he is seeing and how he is hallucinating.

The setting of the music video is a city at night, what looks to be London.

Representation

Alex Turner is shown in and leaving a busy pub before the music to the video starts playing. The music video shows him in conversation with a girl over text, showing how he is trying to get to here house.

This is obviously made a lot more difficult as he is hallucinating and seeing people doing things which in reality they are not.

Meanings created Within the music video, we see him (Alex Turner)

hallucinating at different people. Each of these people are shown to be in different situations, which create different meanings in the lead singers head.

This is shown by the camera showing point of view shots of what he is seeing, and then turning back to having him in focus and what is actually happening in reality.

Genre conventions

This band has a mixed bag of music videos; some being narrative based and others being performance based.
