ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICE

VOICE OF THE VERB Says whether the subject is the doer of

the action or receiver of the action.

ACTIVE VOICE Most of the sentences we speak in day

to day lives are active voice. Shorter than passive voice.

ACTIVE VOICE In active sentences, the thing doing the

action is the subject of the sentence and the thing receiving the action is the object.

[Thing doing action] + [verb] + [thing receiving action]

Verb is controlled by the subject

PASSIVE VOICEVERB IN PASSIVE VOICE SHOWS THAT: Something is done to the person or

thing denoted by the subject. [Thing receiving action] + [be] + [past

participle of verb] + [by] + [thing doing action]

PASSIVE VOICE Verb is controlled by the object. Only past participle of the main verb is

used. Object in active voice becomes subject

in passive voice. Subject in the active voice becomes the

object of preposition "by” in the passive voice.
