Benefits of Video Games

Selective Attention

Selective attention means being able to focus in on a task and be able to ignore the distractions that may be happening in the world around you.

Negative Effects of Video Games

World Health Organization - has defined a Gaming Disorder as a significant health concern https://www.who.int/features/qa/gaming-disorder/en/

AddictionPsychiatrist Michael Brody, MD, set forth the following criteria for addiction:

1. The person needs more and more of a substance or behavior to keep him going.

2. If the person does not get more of the substance or behavior, he becomes irritable and miserable.

How many of you can say that your kids will be happy with half an hour of gaming? Or even only one hour?

How long would your kids continue to play if left to themselves?

Consider the following...This is Rapi Ananda Pamungka, a two year old child who smokes 40 cigarettes a day. His mother buys him the cigarettes, because he cries and throws tantrums if he does not have them because he is addicted.

Would you buy your child cigarettes if they cried for them?
