Trinity Lutheran Church 424 E. Gilman St. New York Mills, MN 56567
218-385-2450
Pastor Kirk Douglas
Trinity Lutheran Church strives to connect people to Jesus by
demonstrating God’s unconditional love.
Love God boldly, Grow in faith continually, Serve others joyfully.
THIRTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST August 19, 2018
IN OUR PRAYERS: God invites us to cast all our cares and worries upon Him because
He cares for us. Today we cast upon God those who are sick, awaiting surgery or
recovering, especially Duane Castle, Gunard Heikkila, Randy Windels, Lillian Wallgren,
Yvonne Huttunen, Connie Wallgren, Kristine Barker, Ralph Schwartz, Dan Cresswell,
Paul Ebnet, Ron Ruther, Greg Mickelson, Jann Lee, Jim Wallgren, Madella Siirila, Susan
Hintzman, Clarence Siebels, Duane Matz and Nicky Names.
AS WE GATHER: “At one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord”
(Ephesians 5:8). This nugget from today’s Epistle gets to the heart of the Gospel: Jesus
Christ has rescued you from the darkness of sin and made you a child of the light! And
when does that take place? “Now,” says Paul! Now that Christ has died, now that Christ
is risen, now that His Word has claimed you, you are God’s own. Now be who you are!
The light of Christ will shine on you today in this time of hearing His Word and receiving
His Sacrament. As darkness scatters, let us come into the light, worshiping our Savior
with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.
READINGS: Proverbs 9:1–10, Ephesians 5:6–21, John 6:51–69

who qualify for tuition assistance by providing all or a portion of the monthly tuition ($75
for 3 yr. olds / $85 for pre-k). Please contact DCE Gary Bach for more details!

Lutheran Preschool. Here’s how!

the time to pick up these items when they are on sale to put in your boxes! Operation
Christmas Child is not one of the Missions of the Month this year. The Women’s Ministry
Team encourages everyone to fill a box or 2 or 3 or more this year! The red and green
boxes will be available for pickup starting on Rally Sunday. There is a tub to collect
individual items of new toys, clothing, hygiene items and school supplies that can be put
into boxes, but as of last week there have been no donations in the box this year. Please
note that NO CANDY OR TOOTHPASTE can be put in boxes in 2018. Your cash
donations are also welcomed and may be put in your designated offering envelopes with
OCC on the front. Women’s Ministry would like to thank everyone who supports this
mission!
