The Premise of RHCs
The RHC program primary purpose is to increase access to primary care services for patients in rural areas. RHCs can be public, nonprofit, or for-profit healthcare facilities. RHCs must be located in rural underserved areas. A RHC must be staffed at least 50% of the time with a NP, PA, or CNM in addition to a supervising physician. RHCs are required to provide outpatient medical services and basic laboratory services.
