1. The Origin: where and when?

First meeting in Würzburg (Germany) in June 1982 thank to Jack Revell and to the hospitality provided by Andreas Bouveret in his beautiful castle!

1. The Origin: who and how?

• The first meeting was very informal

• No papers, just discussions sitting around a table on Andreas’ terrace to share opinions on research topics and views on the state of financial institutions

• The small group was invited for dinner at a very typical restaurant

• The restaurant hall exhibited a very strange fictional animal –half bird, half rabbit, with horns and feathers and an ugly face

• Prof. Vollrodt told a story about the animal itself

2. The Name: why?

He stated that the

Wolpertingerwas a real animal, that lived in the

woods of BavariaImmediately it was decided to

adopt Wolpertingeras the Club short name

• According to the legend, anyone whowants to see a Wolpertinger alive in itsnatural habitat must be an attractive single woman and needs to visit a forest in the Bavarian Alps during a full moon,

accompanied by the "right man"
