NorthFloridaCommunityCollegenameda“2016GreatCollegetoWorkFor”byTheChronicleofHigherEducation

NorthFloridaCommunityCollegeisoneofthebestcollegesinthenationtoworkforaccordingtoanewsurveybyTheChronicleofHigherEducation,atoptradepublicationforcollegesanduniversities.

Theresults,releasedthisweekinTheChronicle’sninthannualreportonTheAcademicWorkplace,arebasedonasurveyof281collegesanduniversitiesanddirectemployeefeedbackfromthoseinstitutions.Only93ofthesurveyedinstitutionsachieved“GreatCollegetoWorkFor”recognition.ThisisthefirstyearNFCCparticipatedinthesurvey.

NFCCwashonoredamonginstitutionswith2,999studentsorlessandreceivedadditionaldistinctionbybeingnamedtoTheChronicle’sHonorRollof“2016GreatCollegestoWorkFor.”

“NorthFloridaCommunityCollegeemployeescareabouttheworktheydo,thepeopletheyworkwithandtheintegrityoftheinstitutionasawhole,”saidNFCCPresidentJohnGrosskopf.“Thisrecognitionspeaksvolumesaboutourcampus,employeesandtheextraordinaryworkenvironmentthatweenjoyhereatNFCC.Visitorsregularlycommentonourwelcomingenvironmentandourfriendly,helpfulfacultyandstaff.WeareproudtoofferNFCCemployeesavarietyofavenuestoenrichtheirlivespersonallyandprofessionallythroughaccesstothearts,healthandwellnessprograms,anoutstandingbenefitspackage,andprofessionalcollaborationwithintheFloridaCollegeSystemandbeyond.”

NorthFloridaCommunityCollegestrivescontinuouslytoseeitsstudentssucceedandisinitiatinganewprogram,theNFCCMinoritySuccessProgram,thatwillhelpmoreminoritystudentssucceedfromadmissiontograduation.Theprogramwillofferanetworkofsupportoncampus;focusonacademicachievement,civicengagementandpersonalenrichment;andconnectstudentswithcommunitymentorstomaximizeresultsandhelpstudentsexcel.

“SinceIbeganworkingonthisprojectwithNFCC,ithasbecomeveryclearthattheCollegeputsstudentsfirstineveryrespect,”saidMattair.“Thisprogramisgoingtohelpmorelocalstudentsandofferresourcesandmentorshiptothosestudentswhoputforthacommitmenttosucceed.IamexcitedtobenowrecruitingstudentsintotheprogramandworkingwithourNFCCMinoritySuccessProgramadvisoryboardtogetthisprogramstartedontherighttrack.”

Tri-CountyElectricdonationhelpsprovidescholarshipsforlocalstudentsatNorthFloridaCommunityCollege

Tri-CountyElectricCooperativehasmadeagenerousdonationof$2,500totheNorthFloridaCommunityCollegeFoundationtohelpfundeducationscholarshipsforNFCCstudents.Thedonationcontinuesalong-timepartnershipbetweenthetwoinstitutionsandbenefitslocalstudentsandfamiliesservedbyTri-CountyElectricandNFCC.

"ItisanhonortocontinueourpartnershipwithNFCCandsupporteducationforourmembersinthiscommunity,"saidJuliusHackett,Tri-CountyElectricCooperativeCEO.

ThedonationwasmadepossiblethroughTri-CountyElectric’sEnergizingEducationPrograminwhichTri-CountyElectricmemberselecttohavetheirmonthlystatementroundeduptothenextdollarandthosecentssetasidetofundeducationscholarshipsforhighschoolseniorsandnontraditionalundergraduatestudentsataccreditedFloridacollegesanduniversities.TheTri-CountyElectricScholarshipatNFCCprovideseducationsupportforqualifiedmembersandtheirfamiliesinJefferson,MadisonandTaylorCountiesandawardsuptoa$1,000scholarshipannually.
