James at NFCC on Aug. 17, 2016. THE NFCCNEWS A NEWSLETTER FOR THE NORTH FLORIDA COMMUNITY COLLEGE COMMUNITY August 26, 2016 North Florida Community College named a “2016 Great College to Work For” by The Chronicle of Higher Education North Florida Community College is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for according to a new survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education, a top trade publication for colleges and universities. The results, released this week in The Chronicle’s ninth annual report on The Academic Workplace, are based on a survey of 281 colleges and universities and direct employee feedback from those institutions. Only 93 of the surveyed institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition. This is the first year NFCC participated in the survey. NFCC was honored among institutions with 2,999 students or less and received additional distinction by being named to The Chronicle’s Honor Roll of “2016 Great Colleges to Work For.” “North Florida Community College employees care about the work they do, the people they work with and the integrity of the institution as a whole,” said NFCC President John Grosskopf. “This recognition speaks volumes about our campus, employees and the extraordinary work environment that we enjoy here at NFCC. Visitors regularly comment on our welcoming environment and our friendly, helpful faculty and staff. We are proud to offer NFCC employees a variety of avenues to enrich their lives personally and professionally through access to the arts, health and wellness programs, an outstanding benefits package, and professional collaboration within the Florida College System and beyond.” More Info NFCC Honors Retirees Claudette Alexander and Janie Mitchell for Years of Service NFCC President John Grosskopf (middle) presents retirees Claudette Alexander (left) and Janie Mitchell (right) with commemorative plaques recognizing their years of dedication to the College. Alexander is retiring after serving NFCC for 22 years while Mitchell retires with 34 years of service to the college. We are so happy to have our returning students and new NFCC Sentinels on campus! Welcome and best wishes for a great Fall Term 2016! See More Photos NFCC Building Bridge to Success for Minority Students North Florida Community College strives continuously to see its students succeed and is initiating a new program, the NFCC Minority Success Program, that will help more minority students succeed from admission to graduation. The program will offer a network of support on campus; focus on academic achievement, civic engagement and personal enrichment; and connect students with community mentors to maximize results and help students excel. Marvin “Merv” Mattair is helping lead this initiative and, aligned with the program’s slogan, working to “build a bridge of success which no one has to cross alone.” “Since I began working on this project with NFCC, it has become very clear that the College puts students first in every respect,” said Mattair. “This program is going to help more local students and offer resources and mentorship to those students who put forth a commitment to succeed. I am excited to be now recruiting students into the program and working with our NFCC Minority Success Program advisory board to get this program started on the right track.” More Info Tri-County Electric donation helps provide scholarships for local students at North Florida Community College Tri-County Electric Cooperative has made a generous donation of $2,500 to the North Florida Community College Foundation to help fund education scholarships for NFCC students. The donation continues a long-time partnership between the two institutions and benefits local students and families served by Tri-County Electric and NFCC. "It is an honor to continue our partnership with NFCC and support education for our members in this community," said Julius Hackett, Tri-County Electric Cooperative CEO. The donation was made possible through Tri-County Electric’s Energizing Education Program in which Tri- County Electric members elect to have their monthly statement rounded up to the next dollar and those cents set aside to fund education scholarships for high school seniors and nontraditional undergraduate students at accredited Florida colleges and universities. The Tri-County Electric Scholarship at NFCC provides education support for qualified members and their families in Jefferson, Madison and Taylor Counties and awards up to a $1,000 scholarship annually.
