How to Disrupt MOOCs (1) • Create a high-quality but low-cost system for
creating and distributing learning materials.
• Offer online courses that are accredited by a legal government education ministry.
• Offer courses that are transferable to other universities, meet prospective employer needs, and result in very high test scores in standardized tests.
• Design high-quality lessons with highly effective elements of motivation and user intimacy.
How to Disrupt MOOCs (2) • Offer courses that can be successfully used across
platforms, from basic mobile phones to tablets and PCs, or as printable PDF documents.
• Design for academic honesty such as simple video cameras, thumbprint readers, and/or local learning advisers.
• Ensure that independent audit results show more than 80% completion rates.
• Train and retain the best teachers and students to create and upgrade the lessons.
• Train and retain the best teachers and students as online learning advisers; keep the student-teacher ratios below 30 per teacher, per semester.
