In nearly all cases of mechanical liquid/solidsseparation, continuously operating centrifuges are thebest technical and economical proposition. They candewater large quantities of solids to low final moistures, whilst needing little space, energy and time. Thecorrect centrifuge will reduce the cost of thermal dryingconsiderably and may even make it superfluous.
TEMA - Siebtechnik Centrifuges
SIEBTECHNIK specialise in the development andmanufacture of continuously operating centrifuges. Our technical experts are at your disposal to adviseyou on the most suitable centrifuge. Machines areavailable for tests either on your premises or in ourtest establishment.
The most versatile of our continuously operating centrifuges are worm/screen centrifugesin which the solids retained on the sieve are transported from the small to the largediameter through the angle of inclination of the basket and the slightly different speed ofthe scraper worm. With an angle of inclination of the basket adapted to the feed material, widely different products such as short fibre cotton linters, ice crystals from freezeconcentration or granular plastics, but especially salt crystals of diverse origin andconsistency are successfully separaten from the mother liquor and, where necessary, purified by washing. Depending on the operational conditions, the screen basket isprovided with perforated sheets or slot sieves.
Decanter Centrifuges are used to separate very fine solids from liquids of lighter density. The solids form a sediment in the liquid, but are not retained by a screen as in a screeningcentrifuge. The speed of sedimentation can be increased by adding flocculents. In the solid bowlcentrifuge the sedimented solids are transported by the scroll to the smaller diameterand discharged, while the clear liquid flows over the adjustable weir at the cylindrical endof the machine. The screen decanter is a combination of a decanter and a screencentrifuge, which has a screen section to further reduce the final moisture. Materialpassing through the screen section can be recycled to the centrifuge feed.
The highest throughputs, up to 350t/h of solids, are attained with vibratory centrifuges inwhich the solids, which are retained by the sieve, are transported from the small to thelarge diameter by axial vibrations which exceed the rotary movement. Since this conveyingmechanism fails at high centrifugal forces, vibratory centrifuges are in the first placesuitable for processing mass products which can easily be dewatered to a relativelygood final moisture.
!"# The TURBO-CASCADE isa special centrifuge which was developed for the dewateringof solids with a uniform particle size down to about 0.5 mm. The granules slide individually, not as a compact layer, over stepwise arranged screen segments.Baffle plates which rotate with the basket prevent them from jumping to another segment. In spite of the very short retention time of each individual particle in the centrifuge, finalmoistures down to 0.01 % are being attained.
$# Pusher centrifuges are very robust, continuously operating machines, which in double-step execution offer highly reliable operation. The solids are retained, as a cake, by awedge wire basket and pushing motions in axial direction convey them to the dischargepoint. These centrifuges are employed when considerable wear can be expected andwhere an extremely low loss of solids in the filtrate and good washing are required.

%The construction and working method of the ConturbexWorm/Screen Centrifuge is shown in the crosssectional drawing. Drive unit, bearings, rotating partsin the liquids chamber and the solids discharge areclearly visible and easily accessible for maintenance. The drive is by vee-belts and the speed of the rotatingparts is chosen to sult the process requirements. Acyclo gear unit ensures the necessary differentialspeed between worm and basket, even with a highfriction between the two. An overload protectionsystem prevents damage to the cyclo gear unit.Gearbox and bearings have a pressurised lubricationsystem, with the exception of the H 200 which has aoil filled gearbox.Machine and drive motor are mounted on a base frameprovided with rubber feet which can be bolted to thesupport construction.Even our largest centrifuge can be installed withoutspecial foundations or balancing weights. The relati-ve movement of the worm, ensures even distributionof the solids on the screen, thus preventing unduevibration. No potentially unbalancing solids remain inthe worm when the machine is stopped.
& ! The contact parts are made from Austenitic Steel, special Bronze, Hastelloy, Nickel, Titanium or similardepending on the application. With abrasive materials, the vulnerable zones are protected by abrasionresistant materials.

For the Conturbex Worm/Screen Centrifuge these areeither cylindrical or conical with 20 or 10° inclinations. The worm which rotates with a differential speeddetermines the transport speed and the retention timeof the solids on the screen.
With conical rotating parts the movement of the solidsis helped by the inclination. This angle is determinedby the manufacturer and influenced by the processrequirements.

!!()°
This standard execution has provedexcellent with most products andproblems. The solids slide from thesmaller to the larger diameter aidedby the increasing centrifugal force, but without significant push fromthe worm.

This angle is preferred when inten-sive washing on the screen isnecessary.
