Description

TheUSB1553seriesofproductsarepocket-sizedUSBadaptersthatenablecomputerstointerfacewithMIL-STD-1553avionicsdatabuses.Havingextensive1553functionality,theyareusedtocommunicatewith,simulate,test,andmonitor1553equipmentandsystems.Severalmodelsareavailablewithdifferentchannelcountsandcapabilities.

BeingaUSBperipheral,theUSB1553iscompatiblewithvirtuallyallmodernPClaptop,desktop,tablet,andnetbookcomputers.PlugandPlayandHotSwapfeaturesmakeiteasytoinstallandmovebetweencomputers.TheUSB1553supportsmaximumdatathroughputonall1553channelsandhasalarge32MBbuilt-inmemory.WithallitscapabilityandversatilitytheUSB1553issuitableforawiderangeofapplicationsinthelabandinthefield.

TheUSB1553issmall,lightweight,andrugged.AllpowernecessaryforoperationisprovidedviathesingleUSBport.Allmodelsincludeeightavionicslevelinput/outputdiscretesandIRIGtimesynchronization/generation.TwoLEDsindicatepowerandbustrafficbydefault,ortheycanbecontrolledbyusersoftware.

Dependinguponthehardwaremodel,each1553channelmaybeeithersingle-function,multi-function,orbusmonitoronly.Single-functionchannelscanbeconfiguredinsoftwareaseitheraBusController(BC),aBusMonitor(BM),orupto32RemoteTerminals(RTs).Multi-functionchannelshaveprotocolerrorinjectioncapabilityandcansimultaneouslybeaBC,BM,andupto32RTs.

Software

UserscandeveloptheirownsoftwareapplicationswiththeincludedBTIDriverAPI.WithonlyafewfunctioncallsaprogramcanoperatetheUSB1553andprocessmessagestoandfromtheavionicsdatabuses.Functionsincluderoutinesfortransmitting,receiving,scheduling,recording,time-tagging,andmanipulatingdata.TheUSB1553canuseapplicationsdevelopedforotherBallarddevices.CodemigratesseamlesslyfromBTIDrivercompatibledevicesorthroughatranslationdriverfromolderBallarddevices.

Alternatively,Ballard’soptionalCoPilotsoftwareprovideseasy-to-use,interactivetoolsfordatabustest,analysis,andsimulation.CoPilotsimplifiesprojectdevelopmentandprovidesaddedproductivitythroughvirtualinstrumentdisplays,flexiblemonitoringandanalysistoolsandapowerfulscriptingengine.
