Connection steps:

1. Deconnectthecable modempowersupply. Youcanreconnectitin only30minutes.2. ConnectyourPCinto the1,2or3Ethernetport onyourwirelessmodem router.3. Connecttheotherendto theEthernetporton yourcomputer.4. Plugthepoweradapter intothepoweroutlet andthewirelessmodem router(blackport).5. Ensurethatthewireless modem router is powered on.Thepowerswitchis ontherightsideofthe backpanel.

TheTCP/IPprotocolmustbeinstalled,asthisstepenablesyoutobeidentifiedontheInternet.Withoutthisinformation,youwillnotbeabletoaccesstheInternet.Itisthereforeimportantthatyoumakesurethatthedatayouenterisaccurate.Pleaserefertothe“ImportantInforma-tion”thatyouwrotedownonthelastpageofthisdocument.

BeforeconfiguringtheIPaddress,makesurethatthephysicalcompo-nentsareworkingproperly.Thenetworkinterfacecardneedstohavebeenconfiguredandthemodeminstalledinordertodothis.

Windows2000andXP:

1.ClickonStart>Settings>ControlPanel.

2.Double-clickon“NetworkandDial-upConnections”.

Followthenextstepstomodifytheconfigurationofyourgateway:

1. StartupyourWebbrowserandtypethefollowingaddress:http://192.168.254.254

2.TheGateway Setup Wizard screen appears. ClickNext to proceed.

3. Typeyouruser name(theone Customer Service Departmentgaveyou) andyourpassword.

Confirmyour password in theappropriate field.Inthisstep, youareestablishing thepasswordthatis requiredforany futureaccesstothe Gateway’sconfigu- ration screen.

1.6 Security

Inordertoprotectyourcomputersystemsfromunauthorizedaccess, CablevisionstronglyrecommendsenablingWPA-TKIPencryptionwithapasswordonyourwirelessnetwork,nomorethan30charactersinlength.ThissecuritymodeiscompatiblewithWindowsXPorsubsequentoperationsystems.Ifyoudonotplanonusingthewirelessnetwork,thenwe recommenddisablingthewirelessadapterontherouter.Enabling the wirelessadapterwithoutwirelesssecurityfeaturesturnedoncouldpotentiallyexposeyoursystemstodatatheft,viruses,spywareandother unauthorized access.

Configurethewirelessnetworkusingthisoption.ThewirelesssettingsontheGatewaymustmatchthoseofanywirelessclientsonyournetwork.

Toconfigurethewirelessnetwork:

1.ClicktheConfiguretheLocalSpeedStreamGatewayWireless Network hyperlink.Thisdisplaysthe“WirelessSummary”window.

2.ClickBegin Wireless Wizard.Thisdisplaysthe“WirelessSetup Configuration”window.

3. Select Enable toenabletheWirelessInterface. 4.TypeyourwirelessnetworkIDinSSID(Example:cablevision).

5.Optionally,selectachannelIDfromtheChannel drop-down menu and clickonEnableAutoScanonPowerON.Thisstepisoptionalbutisstronglyrecommendedifyouexperienceinterferenceorifyouliveinaheavilypopulatedarea(example:downtownornearanofficebuilding).Thisway,ifthereisinterference,yourmodemwillchooseanotherchannel.

6.ClickNext. 7.SelectWPA-TKIPfromtheSecurityModedrop-downmenu,

asrecommendbyCablevision.

WirelessSetupWPA-TKIPOptionTousetheWPA-TKIPoption:

1.Fromthe“WirelessSecurityConfiguration”window,selectWPA-TKIPfromtheSecurityModedrop-downmenu.IfyoucheckEnableSSIDBroadcast,thedetectionofyourinternetsignalwillbeeasierfor non-authorizedusers,thereforeitisrecommendedyounotactivate thebroadcast.

2.ClickNext.Thisdisplaysthe“WirelessWPAConfiguration”window.

3.Createasecretpasswordwithnomorethan30characters.This passwordneedstobedifficulttofindforanexternaluser,buteasytotypeforyou.

4.KeepGroupKeyRenewalat3600 seconds.

5.ClickNext.Thisdisplaysthe“WirelessFilterConfiguration”window. WirelessFilterandOptionsConfiguration

ControlaccesstotheGatewayofwirelessdevicesbasedontheMACaddressofthedeviceusingthe“WirelessFilterConfiguration”window.AMAC(MediaAccessControl)addressreferstoahardwareaddressthatuniquelyidentifieseachdeviceofanetwork.RefertotheuserdocumentationforeachdeviceyouwishtodenyorallowaccessforaparticularMACaddress.

Toconfigurethewirelessfilter:

1.SelectoneofthefollowingWireless Filteroptions: • Enable Enablewirelessfiltering. • Disable Disablewirelessfiltering.Ifwirelessfilteringisdisabled,

alldeviceshaveaccesstotheGateway.

2.Ifwirelessfilteringisenabled,selectoneofthefollowingFilterMode

options: • Allow PermitsaccesstoalltheMACaddressesenteredinthetable. • DenyRestrictsGatewayaccesstoalltheMACaddressesenteredin

thetable.

3.TypetheMACaddressintheMACAddresscolumnnexttoeachdeviceyoueitherwanttopermitorrestrictaccess.

4.ClickNext.Thisdisplaysthe“WirelessOptionsConfiguration”window.

5.Optionally,configurethefollowingitems: • Data Transfer RateIfaparticularwirelessclientisunableto

auto-negotiateaconnectiontotheGateway,thedatatransferrate maybesettoaspecificdataratesuchas11Mbpsfor802.11b wireless clients.

• RTS/CTSThresholdAgroupofwirelessclientsmayexperience difficultycommunicatingwiththeGatewaywithoutinterruptingeach other’scommunications.Ifthisoccurs,theRTS/CTSthresholdmay besettoahighernumbertoallowthemeachalongerperiodinwhich tocommunicatewiththeGatewaybeforethepriorityisswitchedto anotherwirelessclientwishingtotransmitdata.

• Fragmentation Threshold Thefragmentationthresholdmaybe loweredtoimprovereliabilityinanexcessively“noisy”wireless environmentifchangingchannelsdoesnotprovidesignificantenough

improvement.

Ifyouwishtoresettheoptionsinthe“WirelessOptionsConfiguration”win-dow,clickRestore Default Values.Thesystemrespondsbyrestoringalltheadvancedfeaturesonthispage.

6.ClickNext.Thisdisplaysthe“WirelessWizard”finishwindow.
