Unite Against Fascism (UAF) is a broad coalition that organises to stop fascist organisations fromgrowing. It has led major campaigns and protests against the British National Party (BNP), theNational Front (NF) and English Defence League.

Following the 2014EuropeanandEnglish-council election results, all anti-fascistswill have celebrated thenews that the BNP lost their only European Parliamentary seat. This defeat shows that the majority ofpeople rejected the BNP’s message of hate.

However across Europe far-right and fascist parties made significant gains. There can be no room forcomplacency here in Britain. UKIP ‘s election victory is a very worrying development. Though not a fascist

party, UKIP creates a racist climate wherenazi parties could grow.

The rise of fascist and far-right 'populist'parties are awarning to us all - rights that havebeen won from past battles need to bedefended. Pride takes place because it wasfought for - but would, for example, a UKIP-controlled council try to ban it? Hundreds ofthousands demonstrated recently againstgay-marriage in France, partly thanks to thegrowth of the fascist Front National.

Fascist and racist parties cut their teeth onanti-immigrant racism and Islamophobia.However filthy prejudiced ideas about LGBTpeople, women and others lurk just beneaththe surface and come more to the fore as theright grow in confidence. InSwanseawehavehad an NF 'white-pride' event for the past twoyears - the NFwould love to attack events likePride, or target individual LGBTpeople, if theyare allowed to grow.

defeat theBNPandmore recently the racist EnglishDefenceLeague.Butweareclear our job is far fromdone.Over the comingmonthswewill continue to ensurethat fascist parties do not make any gains in British politics. We also believe thatit is vital we campaign to stop the rise of racist and fascist parties across Europeand along with other campaigning groups we will be combating the rise of UKIP.
