DELAWARE STUDENT TESTING PROGRAM

•The DSTP:

-measures how students are progressing relative to the content standards

–provides reports of student’s strengths & weaknesses and helps identify student needs

–relates well to other measures of student performance such as teacher “alert lists”

Delaware Student Testing Program

• Since 1998 students in have been tested in reading, writing, mathematics

– grades 2-10

• Since 2000 students have also been tested in science and social studies

– grades 4, 6, 8 & 11

• In spring 2009 students will be tested in reading and mathematics in:

– Grades 2-10 – SAT 10 – DE standards specific items

• Every student receives a Performance Level• Grade 2 students receive only 3 Perf. Levels

• Grades 5, 8 and 10• Each test requires a level of ability

DSTP Performance Levels

• Five Performance Levels (Grades 3-10)

– Level 5 Distinguished– Level 4 Exceeds the Standard– Level 3 Meets the Standard– Level 2 Below the Standard – Level 1 Well Below the Standard

Student Accountability

• There are no promotion consequences fro grades 2-5 as a result of performance on the DSTP

• Students in grades 2-5 who score a PL 1 and not meeting benchmarks on district level assessments will be invited to a summer enrichment program

• There will be consequences for students in middle school who do not meet the standards in reading and mathematics. This will be a multi- assessment decision and will not be the result of just the DSTP.

Scholarships & Recognition• Michael C. Ferguson Scholarships

– 150 $1,000 scholarships available for highest performers in reading, writing and math in grades 8 & 10

– 150 $1,000 scholarships available for highest low-income performers in reading, writing and math in grades 8 & 10

• Certificates

– State of Delaware Distinguished Performance Certificates for any student who earns a Level 5 on the DSTP in reading, writing or math in grades 3, 5, 8 or 10
