The winter and spring at the Cleveland Institute of Art are filled with countless opportunities to feed your artistic soul. From our art and design classes for every age group, to gallery exhibitions featuring intriguing artists and emerging talent, you will certainly find an activity that speaks to you. Many of our programs are free and open to the public including our Cuba Artist Symposium and spring gallery exhibition, The Art of Form + Scale, featuring the work of beloved faculty member Barbara Stanczak and our first commissioned work, Music Box, by internationally renowned installation artist Dave Cole. See the work of our students during our Spring Design Show and the 66th Annual Student Independent Exhibition—last year’s exhibition was hailed by the Plain Dealer as “engaging, exhilarating, and very, very, fresh.” Plan to attend a film at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque or build your art and design skills through one of our Continuing Education programs. Take a moment to page through this brochure; I’m sure you’ll find an opportunity that will connect you to the inspiration, imagination, and excitement of the visual arts.

Form + AnswerBarbara Stanczak
CIA faculty member Barbara Stanczak’s meticulous sculp-tures blur the line between abstract and figural, reminding us that ocular experiences can be physical too. Her sculpture takes on the feel of the natural elements from which they are made—Italian translucent alabaster, butternut wood, gold leaf, and copper. In this exhibition she captures complexities and contradictions in eye and hand, smoothing the surface of rough stone, for example, to reveal its fluid origins.
