1. (3x + 4)2
= 9x2 + 24x + 16 Simplify.
2. (5x – 2y)2
=25x2 – 20xy + 4y2 Simplify.
= (3x + 4)(3x + 4)
= (5x – 2y)(5x - 2y)
= 9x2 + 12x + 12x + 16
= 25x2 – 10xy – 10xy + 4y2
3. (x + 3)2
= x2 + 6x + 9 Simplify.
4. (2x + 1)2
= 4x2 + 4x + 1 Simplify.
= (x + 3)(x + 3)
= (2x + 1) + (2x + 1)
= x2 + 3x + 3x + 9
= 4x2 + 2x + 2x + 1
5. (4x – y)2
= 16x2 – 8xy + y2 Simplify.
= (4x – y)(4x – y)

SOLUTION
Notice that 26 is 4 less than 30 while 34 is 4 more than 30.
