SIRSI Online Catalog: What is it? The SIRSI Online Catalog allows

users to find books and videos in the library as well as downloadable electronic books.

How to get to the SIRSI Online Catalog

1. Go to the Heldman Learning Resource Center web page: http://library.wlac.edu/

2. Click on SIRSI Online Catalog to enter the Quick Search

screen.

How to get to the SIRSI Online Catalog

The Quick Search screen will appear. This is the default screen. At this point you can perform a Keyword search by word or phrase, author, title, subject, or series.

You may search all of the LACCD libraries.  The default Library is West Los College Library (WLAC).

Ways to search the SIRSI Online Catalog Quick Search

Allows you to search or browse a single field such as author, title, subject or series

Power Search(aka Advanced Search) allows you to refine a search by

combing different search elements (e.g. author AND title AND subject), performs Browse Search and  Call Number Search

Quick Search Methods Search by WORDS OR PHRASE – If  you do not know the exact

title, name or subject, you can type in that phrase /word to search

Search by SUBJECT – Click on SUBJECT. The online catalog uses Library of Congress Subject Headings as its subject authority.

Search by AUTHOR – Click on AUTHOR.  Type in the author’s surname, then first name to search

Search by TITLE – Click on TITLE.  Type in the title of the book you want

Search by SERIES – Type in the title of the Series to search (e.g. Dictionary of Literary Biography)

Quick Search by Subject The online catalog uses Library of Congress

Subject Headings.  Once you pick the subject you wish to search

such as “Global Warming”, you type the subject term in the search box.

Click on SUBJECT after typing in your search term

Quick Search by Subject Then, SIRSI will show you number of hits in WLAC (also

will show what is available in all the LACCD libraries when you pull the Library box menu down).

Quick Search by Subject Then pull down the Library menu and select ALL

Quick Search by SubjectThe Online Catalog shows where the book is located in the library

(e.g. STACKS, REFERENCE, RESERVES) and where it is shelved by its CALL NUMBER (e.g. QC981.8 .C5 P415 2007 ).

It also shows the availability of the item (e.g. Available, Check-Out).

Click on DETAILS, to see the full bibliographic reference

How to access Electronic Books

To access Electronic Books from outside the WLAC Library you will first need to create a free account

1. Go to the Heldman Learning Resource Center web page: http://library.wlac.edu/

2. Click on NetLibrary E-Books to create a free account for off-campus access

How to access Electronic Books From off campus you will be asked for a username

and password.

Username: HLRC

Password: WLAC

Then click URL to access the E-BOOK through NetLibrary
