Alexander Hamilton - wanted more than what was stated in the Constitution. Used “ necessary and proper” clause to say it was necessary and proper to have a National Bank to develop the economy

James Madison- “Father of the Constitution” helped to write federalist papers; wrote the 10 Amendments to compromise with the Anti Federalists

ANTI- FEDERALISTS Argued the states should remain powerful Fought to get away from strong central gov’t Constitution should protect individual rights Patrick Henry – hated idea of strong central

gov’t. refused to attend Philadelphia Convention

George Mason, leader of anti federalists, wanted to restrict power of central gov’t and supported protection of individual rights
