Joseph A. W. Quintela | A Note from the Editor We’re in inter-session at SF&D and thought you might enjoy a little collection of work from three of our favorite recurrent SF&D authors. Howie Good and Dale Wisely are the dynamic duo behind White Knuckles Press and cur.ren.cy: two hot, little, online literary satellite born out of Wisely’s longstanding Right Hand Pointing (which was, I am proud to mention, the first place I ever published). Besides this, the two are both prolific writers and Good has regularly featured in SF&D since the fourth issue. Sandwiched between them is the work of Will Sharp, a fierce flash writer quite worthy of his name. We thought you might enjoy this little snack while we finish up the edits on the first full issue of SF&D Monthly, which will be available at an internet near you beginning 19 January, 2012. Now go read.

Howie Good | Cryptic Endearments

My mother’s maiden name, Sternlicht, translates as starlight. An octopus has three hearts. Waves closed over me. I rang your doorbell & ran.

Howie Good | Supermarket The young pretty cashier ignores my hello as if under the fluorescents it isn’t twilight & I’m not full of fireflies & unconventional notions

Howie Good | Imaginary Landscape No. 2 Women in floating garments had been caught and carried back to a ward with locked doors. Nobody would criticize what God allowed to happen. The sun was almost gone. Guns boomed. The child queen, tall, gaunt, Lincolnesque, went home through crowded and cheering streets. Only the birds fell glumly silent. If you stop to think about it, it’s true, there’s always something else to admire about the architecture of a nest.

Howie Good | Imaginary Landscape No. 3 Bees are sad on Wednesdays. I toss in bed, unable to fall asleep, but unwilling to get up. Almost midnight. It’ll soon be Wednesday again.
