DUALOGISFAST, INTEGRATED PROCESSES IN A MULTICUSTOMERWAREHOUSE WITH mySAP™ SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMEN
For a logistics specialist in the chemicals f ield, effective commu-
nications with customers is a must at every level – including IT.
To ensure its success in this specialized arena, Dualogis chose
SAP® software.
Based in Obenburg am Main, Germany, Dualogis GmbH was
founded in mid-2000 by D. Logistics AG and Acordis Industrial
Fibers GmbH. Acordis Industrial is the largest department at the
multinational Acordis group, which supplies customers worldwwith chemical fiber and special products for industrial, textile,
medical, and hygiene applications. The joint venture, Dualogis,
combines the logistics ability of D. Logistics with the industry-
specific knowledge of the Acordis group.
Dualogis operates the entire Acordis finished-goods warehouse,
including managing goods receipts and issues, picking, staging,
and transportation planning. In an 80,000-square-meter wareho
that boasts 53,000 square meters of storage space, Dualogis
stores and moves more than 120,000 tons of chemical f iber from
around 270,000 pallets. Depending on the product that is stored
and changing customer requirements, Dualogis uses a variety of
storage models, including bulk, flat, and pallet-rack storage, and
a modern high-rack storage system.

mySAP™ SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT:
AN INVESTMENT IN THE FUTURE
“Every customer receives high-quality logistics services at the
best possible price. To a company wishing to succeed in this area,
modern IT solutions are an absolute necessity,” says Oliver
Beierlein, who is responsible for shipping processing at Dualogis.
In order to fulfill this goal, Dualogis decided on SAP software – specifically SAP R/3® software, which is available today in the
“. . . SAP software will accelerate
delivery processing, freight registration,
and transportation processing.”
Oliver Beierlein, Dualogis
mySAP™ ERP solution, and mySAP Supply Chain Management
(mySAP SCM) – at a critical juncture in its business: the mainte-
nance contract for its legacy system expired and two of Dualogis’sbetter customers had just migrated from SAP R/2® software to
SAP R/3. The implementation team at Dualogis was assisted by
a small group of consultants from SAP Consulting.
SYNCHRONIZED FLOW FOR MATERIAL AND DATA
mySAP SCM includes software for all aspects of logistics execu-
tion, including warehouse management. The software manages
putaway, stock transfer, and removal of stock in finished-goods
warehouses. All internal warehouse processes and goods move-
ments are processed without paper – including inventory man-
agement, storage bin management, and radio frequency (RF)technology. Wireless data transfer enables the use of mobile
bar-code readers, which transfer data directly to SAP software.
At Dualogis, warehouse management software is installed as a
central system that communicates with SAP software at the
company and at its integrated customers’ facilities. Handling
unit (HU) management summarizes the different products to
be delivered to a given customer in groups.
Allocating goods at storage-bin level ensures that inventory
management is transparent. Transport management software
calculates cost-effective transport options, takes appointmentinformation into account, supports direct selection of transpor-
tation service providers, puts shipments together, prints the
necessary documents, and calculates shipment costs.
To Beierlein, the advantages of comprehensive warehouse proce
mapping are clear, “The direct wireless-data connection has
significantly reduced transaction times in the warehouse, and
the implementation of new logistics functionality in SAP softwa
will accelerate delivery processing, freight registration, and tran
portation processing.” But that is not all: The standardized,
enhanced reporting software, which can also process customerbilling, provides extra transparency and quality. Both the risk of
error as well as turnaround times are reduced signif icantly. And
the simplified system for communicating with customers and
freight forwarders ensures seamless data exchange.
REACTING FLEXIBLY TO CUSTOMERS AND MARKETS
Dualogis is now well prepared for the future. It plans to integrat
additional customers into the logistics execution software and
map nonwarehouse services. In addition, Dualogis wants to
extend its range of services for existing customers and win new
customers from other industries. According to Roland Endres, application manager at Dualogis, using mySAP SCM is “a distinc
competitive advantage – we have now successfully proven that
different customers’ complex logistics requirements can be
mapped in a single system.”
