Letter from the Pastor Dear Parishioners of Sacred Heart Parish, We received notice from Bishop Weisenburger that the majority of the parishes in the Diocese of Tucson will be allowed to reopen beginning the weekend of August 7, 2020, in accord with the norms in place prior to this second cessation of the celebration of public Mass with the people. In his communication “Parishes Opening for Public Worship”, the text of which is found in full on our parish website (www.sacredheartnogales.com), the Bishop is restricting the parishes located in two coun-ties in the Diocese of Tucson: Yuma County and Santa Cruz County. Sadly, we will have to continue forbidding the people, according to the Bishop’s mandate, from attending Mass in person and also continue the sad practice of locking the doors of our Church while Mass is being live-streamed. I cannot begin to express my frustration and anger at these directives. When we resumed the celebration of public Mass with the people, we were meticulous in following the protocols for the sanitation of pews, the social distancing of people and the wearing of masks. Apparently none of these protocols reduced the spread of the Chinese covid-19 virus. When Governor Ducey called for a limited shut-down of the state the second time, he provided for the exemptions of churches and political rallies, however Bishop Weisenburger chose to require the parishes to once again fully shut-down. Even though we suspended the Mass and other public gatherings, the Chinese COVID-19 virus continued to spread in our county. It will not be until August 21, 2020 that we might possibly be able to resume the celebration of Mass and even then return to the Phase One restrictions that were in place before this second shut-down. As your pastor, my soul and my heart are anguished. I feel what a parent must feel when they see their children suffering and in want and are unable to provide for them. The Lord Jesus Christ or-dered St. Peter: “Feed my sheep, tend my lambs,” (John 21:15,16). This is our primary duty to our sheep, that we, the shepherds attend to your spiritual needs by providing not our own words or ac-tions, but the very Person of Jesus Christ Himself present in the Sacraments and most especially in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Nothing, not the internet, no virtual reality, no live-streaming, nothing can substitute for being present at the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ at the Mass and to be able to eat and drink the fruits (Holy Communion) of the Lord’s Sacrifice. Mensaje del Párroco Queridos feligreses de la Parroquia del Sagrado Corazón, Recibimos un aviso del obispo Weisenburger de que la mayoría de las parroquias de la Diócesis de Tucson podrán reabrir a partir del fin de semana del 7 de agosto de 2020, de acuerdo con las normas vigentes antes de este segundo cese de la celebración de la misa pública con la gente. En su comuni-cación "Aperturas de Las Parroquias para el culto público", cuyo texto se encuentra en su totalidad en el sitio web de nuestra parroquia (www.sacredheartnogales.com), el Obispo está restringiendo a las parroquias ubicadas en dos condados de la Diócesis de Tucson: el condado de Yuma y el conda-do de Santa Cruz. Lamentablemente, tendremos que seguir prohibiendo a las personas, de acuerdo con el mandato del Obispo, asistir a la Misa en persona y también continuar con la triste práctica de cerrar las puertas de la Iglesia mientras se celebra la Misa en vivo. No tengo palabras para expresar mi frustración y enojo por estas directivas. Cuando reanudamos la celebración de la misa pública con la gente, fuimos meticulosos al seguir los protocolos para el sanitización de las bancas, el distanciamiento social de las personas y el uso de cubre bocas. Aparen-temente, ninguno de estos protocolos redujo la propagación del virus Chino COVID-19. Cuando el gobernador Ducey solicitó un cierre limitado del estado por segunda vez, las iglesias y manifestacio-nes políticas fueron exentas, sin embargo, el Obispo Weisenburger decidió exigir a las parroquias que cerraran por completo nuevamente. Aunque suspendimos la misa y otras reuniones públicas, el virus Chino COVID-19 continuó propagándose en nuestro condado. No será hasta el 21 de agosto de 2020 que posiblemente podamos reanudar la celebración de la Misa y luego volver a las restricciones de la Fase Uno que estaban vigentes antes de este segundo cierre. Como su pastor, mi alma y mi corazón están angustiados. Siento lo que los padres deben sentir cuando ven a sus hijos sufriendo y deseosos , y no poder proporcionarles nada. El Señor Jesucristo ordenó a San Pedro: "Apacienta mis ovejas, cuida mis corderos" (Juan 21: 15,16). Este es nuestro principal deber para con nuestras ovejas, que nosotros, los pastores, atendamos sus necesidades espirituales al proporcionarles no nuestras propias palabras o acciones, sino la persona misma de Jesucristo presente en los sacramentos y más especialmente en el Santo Sacrificio de la Misa. Nada, ni el internet, ni la realidad virtual, nada puede sustituir el estar presente en el Santo Sacrificio de la Misa y poder comer y beber los frutos (La Santa Comunión) del Sacrificio de nuestro Señor. Encuentros de Adolescentes Evangelizadores Arcoíris Se fundo en nuestra parroquia con el propósito de atender a la necesi-dad de los jóvenes de nuestra comunidad. En marzo de 2004, se llevo a cabo el 1er. Encuentro de papás Arcoíris en nuestra parroquia para formar un grupo de adultos enamorados y comprometidos con Dios dispuestos a entregarse a evangelización y fundación del grupo de jóvenes. Inicio bajo la administración del Párroco Padre Marcos C. Velasquez y de Padre Eduar-do Lopez Romo como asociado y encargado del movimiento y a partir del verano del 2004 y con el cambio de administración en nuestra parroquia se llevó a cabo el 1er. Encuentro de Adolescentes de Arcoíris emprendien-do bajo la administración de Padre Martin S. Martínez como Párroco. Con el apoyo de jóvenes de nuestra parroquia como también jóvenes de parro-quias hermanas de Nogales, Sonora; dio inicio el Grupo de Adolescentes Arcoíris y el grupo de Papás. Fue tal el impacto en la vida del adolescente que, en el año 2008, varios jóvenes adultos que fueron líderes del grupo en su adolescencia, buscando su continuación en los caminos de Dios y buscando fortalecer su fe, trabajaron bajo el apoyo total del Párroco Padre Martín S. Martínez, y guiados por el Espíritu Santo se fundo el grupo para jóvenes adultos y se llevo acabo en ese año el 1er. Encuentro de jóvenes adultos. Arcoíris en nuestra Parroquia, en nuestra comunidad y en nuestra Dió-cesis ha sido de gran bendición. Jóvenes adolescentes que hoy ya son pa-dres y madres de familia, jóvenes adultos que escucharon la voz de Dios hoy siendo Sacerdotes, y cumpliendo su misión y vocación, padres y ma-dres comprometidos al servicio de Dios propagando el Evangelio, familias reunidas en torno a Dios por medio de Arcoíris. A la fecha en nuestra parroquia se han realizado 23 encuentros de jóve-nes adolescentes, 22 encuentros de papás, 5 encuentros de jóvenes adul-tos, aunado a 13 retiros semillas para niños, pascuas juveniles, retiros de Adviento y la expansión del movimiento en toda la Diócesis de Tucson, Diócesis de Yakima en el estado de Washington y en la Diócesis de Tepic Nayarit, México. Arcoíris es la promesa de esperanza para nuestra Iglesia.

Arcoíris Youth Group Arcoiris was founded in our parish with the purpose of attending to the needs of the youth of our community. In March 1, 2004, the 1st. Retreat for Parents took place in our parish to form a group of adults in love and committed to God to evangelize and found the youth group. It began under the administration of the Pastor Fr. Velásquez and Fr. Eduardo Lopez Romo as associate and in charge of the move-ment. In the summer of 2004 the 1st Retreat for teens took place un-der the administration of Fr. Martin S. Martínez as Pastor. With the support of youth from our parish as well as youth from parishes in Nogales, Sonora; the Teen Group and the group for parents started. In 2008, several young adults who were leaders of the group in their ado-lescence, seeking their continuation in the ways of God and seeking to strengthen their faith, worked under the full support of the Pastor Fr. Martín S. Martínez, and guided by the Holy Spirit they founded the group for young adults and in that same year the 1st retreat for young adults took place in our Parish. Arcoíris has brought many blessings to our community and our Diocese. Great parents, young adults who heard the voice of God and are now Priests fulfilling their mission and vocation, fathers and mothers committed to serving God by spreading the Gospel and families gathered around God. To this date there have been 23 retreats for teens, 22 retreats for parents, 5 retreats for young adults, along with 13 “Semillita” retreats for children, Easter retreats for youth and Advent retreats in our par-ish and the movement has been expanded throughout the Diocese of Tucson, Diocese of Yakima in Washington state and in the Diocese of Tepic Nayarit, Mexico ..This movement is the promise of hope for our Church.
