acknowledges Slough’s modern future, against the backdrop of its past with the charming listed St Ethelburt’s Church next door.
THE CONTEMPORARY DESIGN OF THE CURVE
Set to open in 2015, the Curve will also provide a pedestrian link between the town’s new bus station and Mackenzie Square, offering visitors easier and safer access to the town centre.

from an award-winning architect will also grace the newly revived Slough town centre. This new Office Quarter will be perfectly placed to enjoy quick and easy access to the town’s transport links, and will provide some 375,000 square feet of new office space to meet the demands of the growing Slough economy.

going back as far as 1920, when the world’s first trading estate was established in the town. Activity in the area exploded following World War II, and by 1950 some 240 manufacturers had opened over 600 factories and warehouses in the town.
SLOUGH HAS A LONG AND ILLUSTRIOUS COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE,

to this day, with a marked shift towards telecommunications and IT-based industries over the past 20 years. Slough Trading Estate is now Europe’s largest in single private ownership, and is home to 400 businesses that employ 17,000 people.
Across the town as whole, some 4,000 companies employ over 83,000 local residents, providing Slough with a robust economic backbone that saw it weather the storm of the recession far better than other parts of the UK.
Easy connection to London and the rest of the world via Heathrow airport has brought businesses from all over the UK and Europe to Slough, with companies such as Telefonica (O2), Virgin Media, Honda and GlaxoSmithKline, all with European headquarters in the area.
THIS TRADITION CONTINUES
London’s renowned GBP15.9 billion Crossrail project will also come to Slough, with the local station being revitalised to handle a considerable increase in passenger numbers, train size and frequency.

with its route from east to west, Crossrail will add enhanced connectivity to Slough as trains transport passengers from Shenfield to Reading via Central London and Heathrow.
The project is proving to be a strong catalyst for ongoing regeneration in and around London, and is expected to provide the impetus that will keep Slough developing as one of the UK’s leading towns.

is its fast access to Central London, with trains taking from just 17 minutes to London’s Paddington station. But Crossrail will improve connections to Central London further, providing increased capacity, modernised trains and a direct route to the West End and the City of London, making Slough an attractive proposition for commuters.

is well underway and includes a number of significant upgrades to local infrastructure in order to ease journeys, improve safety and create an attractive welcome to the town.
THE “HEART OF SLOUGH” PROJECT
Slough Bus Station
Slough Train Station
At the birth of the project was the development of Slough’s iconic bus station. Designed by the same team behind the Curve and opened in May 2011, the station is a new landmark for the town that initiated the sweeping modernisation at the epic centre of the Heart of Slough scheme.
22
OTHER INFRASTRUCTURE
The Western Rail Access to Heathrow project is a proposed new train line designed to give easier airport access to the parts of England located to the west of Heathrow. Upon its completion (planned for 2021) the service would add four new trains an hour from Slough to the airport, cutting journey times to as little as six minutes.
DIRECT RAIL TO HEATHROW
With wider pavements and repaved footways as well as new street furniture, the project is going a long way towards making the centre of Slough a more pedestrian friendly area.
Recently completed road and traffic system upgrades go even further, improving the area for road users too, reducing congestion and increasing traffic flow.

in the city’s prime areas, a pricing ripple effect can be observed, as regular demand is pushed into Outer London.
of the past few years has seen investors continue to concentrate their funds in prime central London, an area that’s survived turbulent economic times to maintain its status as a global investment safe haven.
THE LONDON PROPERTY STORY
BUT AS PRICES HAVE CONTINUED TO RISE
THIS DEMAND IS TYPICALLY DRIVEN TO AREASthat combine excellent transport connections and pleasant living environments. With the changes currently underway in Slough, investors can be confident in the town seeing a surge in demand and investment that will drive price and yield growth over the coming years.

will focus on four quadrants that sit adjacent to the old roundabout. The redevelopment will include nearly 1,600 new homes, a new 120-bed hotel, as well as a vast amount of office, retail and leisure space, bringing its key buildings and infrastructure up to date. The New Slough will be a town where people live, work, play, learn, shop and invest, and with the arrival of Crossrail, journeys into Central London and Heathrow airport will be even faster.

BERKSHIRE CONNECTIONS 27
T H E
The latest developments in Slough inspire thoughts of the future, but the wonderful history of this part of England is too rich to overlook.
THE COUNTY OF BERKSHIRE28
with the area surrounding Slough home to iconic British sights and institutions such as Windsor Castle, Eton College and the famous Pinewood Studios. Enveloping the final stretch of the River Thames before it winds its way into London, this is a county that has played a central role in Britain’s historic heritage.
Berkshire is located within England’s Home Counties,
29
Built by William the Conquerer in the 11th century, the iconic Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world, and is the preferred weekend residence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
This lauded educational institution has been responsible for educating some of Britain’s most influential individuals, including 19 British Prime Ministers and the current Mayor of London and Archbishop of Canterbury. Founded by King Henry VI in 1440, Eton’s world-class standards have seen it referred to as the chief nurse of England’s statesmen.
