Dear Lord,

We pray for the success of our Club’s Hyacinth

project, that we could price the finished

product suitably and find an appropriate market

for them so that we could sustain the livelihood

of the families that shall provide the labor for

this project.

Amen.

THE GREAT PRETENDER

Oh-oh, yes I'm the great pretender

Pretending that I'm doing well

My need is such I pretend too much

I'm lonely but no one can tell

Oh-oh, yes I'm the great pretender

Adrift in a world of my own

I've played the game but to my real shame

You've left me to grieve all alone

Too real is this feeling of make-believe

Too real when I feel what my heart can't conceal

Yes I'm the great pretender

Just laughin' and gay like a clown

I seem to be what I'm not, you see

I'm wearing my heart like a crown

Pretending that you're still around

Too real is this feeling of make-believe

Too real when I feel what my heart can't conceal

Yes I'm the great pretender

Just laughin' and gay like the clown

I seem to be what I'm not, you see

I'm wearing my heart like a crown

Pres. Ogie Lim

Fellow Pasig Rotarians:

At first, I thought that we will hit our all time low in attendance

this Rotary Year. But, it relieves me no end as RC Pasig Rotarians

came in one after the other at the start of the formal program last

club assembly.

We held a very interesting discussion last Thursday. The topic on

membership dues has been, and will always be, an issue to most

organizations. Whether to lower it, or raise it, has tremendous

impact to the well-being of any club. RC Pasig is not an exception.

Therefore, I see it as normal and necessary for any club to analyze

membership dues and budget. I heard and noted all the

suggestions, recommendations, and process questions that were

raised in the club assembly. All of these will be taken up in our

next Board meeting. I will make sure that our present Board will

come up with a recommendation to the incoming Board of PE Jess

for their reference in their preparation for next year’s budget.

In the late afternoon, until the late evening of the same day, we

had a small group conversation with PND RJ and Sec Ray at the

penthouse area of the Boni Tower. It was a lively evening with the

group, and I am glad that we came to know each other better. We

had a very animated discussion, with special focus on how to best

run RC Pasig.

Upon the generous invitation of PND RJ, we will hold our next

BOD meeting on February 7, 2017 at his home in Kapitolyo Pasig.

PND RJ will personally cook for us his special “Paella”. Then, on

March, I will sponsor our BOD meeting at the Boni Tower or in

my farm in Real Quezon, where we can swim in the water falls

while having native chicken and turkey as “pulutan” with our old

reliable friend “Johnny”.

Also, in that meeting, the idea of having a club Vision-Mission

Statement came about. If some of you may recall, I first floated

this idea when I was still a PN during the time of PP Ramy. I

talked to some senior Rotarians but it did not fly out. Again, I

attempted to try it again when I was the PE last Rotary Year, but

again, it did not muster ground support.

Last Rotary Year, then PN Jess and I already agreed somehow on

the Vision-Mission Statement. Unfortunately, we were not able to

finish and present it to the Board. We were overtaken by events in

RC Pasig.

This time, with the able support of PND RJ, I am sure that PN

John will also help: we could finish the whole Vision-Mission-

Objective up to Strategies-Plan-of-Action-Tasks-Resources before

the end of this Rotary Year. I hope everybody will do his part to

contribute ideas on how we could be a more effective Rotary Club.

We have to agree on our Vision: our dream, and what we intend to

do and achieve. Then, we state our Mission on how we intend to

accomplish our Vision. Then we will do a SWOT analysis, which

we will use to formulate our Strategies. I am sure many of you

have done this before and some of you can act as facilitators for

the Strategic Planning Seminar for the next Rotary Year and

beyond.

I always believe that organizations should have a continuity of

purpose so that the next president and the president after him will

be guided on what was already done and what he still have to do to

achieve the Vision that we set before hand.

This is the legacy that I hope I can leave behind after my term as

president ends by June 2017. I intend to use my leverage as your

president – whatever is left of it – to achieve this endeavour. I

hope all of you will cooperate because we all surely want to be

Serving Humanity.

Our attendance was the worst ever last meeting. It is slightly better

than a perfect attendance in a Board meeting of our club. There

were more past presidents than the members, including officers of

the club from President to President Elect and President Nominee.

But the more meaningful aspect of running finances of the club

was discussed. The best of POgie is not being reciprocated by the

members. Well, it start with his team. He selected his team in

advance. One of the seeming solutions from our IPP Ner is not a

solution but the interest to get out of our club, join his provincial

club, but sustain his scholarship and regular attendance here

challenging the likes of PPs Ed Lucero and Jimmy Ortigas. His

intentions were not digested because of the seriousness of the

financial crisis.

Can you not discuss with our financial gurus, PP Topax and Vic

Lim if we can sell our receivables and start financially better?

When you do not see PP Ed Lucero for more than three meetings,

there must be some problems in the air? Our anniversary, it will be

his first miss in years and even if it coincides with their regular

meetings he, and, Ching, would not have missed this. Could it be

the taunting of PP Conrad? Whatever, he has been part of the club

for so long. And, Ching too. Sayang to let him go.

POgie is soliciting those who would attend the luncheon RI D-

3800 is hosting for the father and son team of Arch Klump

Members, RIDN Raffy and PP Ramy on 18 February at Gloria

Maris in Greenhills. The two have placed as back in the Rotary

books and will continuously place our club in the limelights. It

may be a good gesture to have more attendance than in our best

attended affair. Rtn. Manoj missed our anniversary even when he

promised he will be attending all meetings after his attendance

three weeks ago. At least, last meeting he was there. Baka he is

not allowed during the night meetings? Strict ang dad niya? Or,

spouse Vhan, or, his daughters?

PP Albert de Rivera of Pasig South was in his usual Frankfurt

Trade Fair which he has not missed a single year as this is where

he gets his major business contracts. The marketing of our water

lilly products should be made into a case study and Albert can

assist us. He is from our daughter club that produced three PDGs

already and a fourth one, PP Raymond, can easily make the

position if spouse Alice would have given our consent. All of the

past presidents there agreed to serve again as President. It started

with present Bobby who was president more than a decade ago.

In the next Board meeting for February, I suggested to POgie to

include our supporting the passion of the Junior of our late PP

Tom Portillo, the assistance to talented children with major

deformities. He was able to first show this at the Discon last year

and he gave a substantial amount to the children. In the 30th

Anniversary of their Company founded by Tom, named also after

Tom, he got all these talents and donated a sizable amount. On 11th

February dinner here at Valle Verde Country Club, for Php

1,000.00 buffet dinner, you get to see the show and per ticket, Php

100 will go to the talents. Chris will match peso to peso any

donation. Lead presenters are two well known artists, the

paraplegic who made the Virgin Mary for Pope Francis and an

Iranian who has a home for the children. We can entertain our

Visiting Rotarians who would be hosting our Medical Mission for

the day. If the club is having yet some financial difficulties, based

PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGE

John F. Germ

President 2016-17

February 2017

On 23 February, we will mark 112 years

since the founding of Rotary. It is incredible

to think about how much has changed, in

our world and in our organization, since the

first Rotary club met in Chicago with Paul Harris as a founding

member.

Some things are easy to compare between now and 1905. There

have been changes in technology, medicine, and society. When we

look at a map of the world in 1905 and a map of the world today,

we can see what’s different. What we can’t do is compare what is

with what might have been. There is no way to compare our world

as it exists now with the world as it would have been without

Rotary.

Rotary has risen to so many challenges in its 112 years. We’ve

answered conflict with peace, and poverty with education. We’ve

responded to a lack of basic health care with projects large and

small, from equipping clinics in tiny villages to eradicating polio

across the globe.

We will never know how different the world would have been if

Rotary had never been founded; if any one Rotary club had never

been chartered; or if any single Rotarian had declined the

invitation to join a Rotary club.

ROTARY CLUB OF PASIG

Tinig Newsletter February 2, 2017

PP Jun C. Zafra

Continuation 1.

But I will say, with absolute faith and complete confidence, that

the world is a far, far better place now than it would have been

without Rotary and that Rotary itself is stronger because of every

one of you.

The world needs Rotary more than ever. It needs our courage, our

optimism, and our idealism. It needs the voice of tolerance,

cooperation, and hope that we can offer. It needs the example of an

organization that has proven that the citizens of all countries can

work together successfully, gladly, and in friendship.

None of us ever knows the full impact of our actions. None of us

knows the effects that will ripple out from the things we do and

say, the decisions we make, the opportunities we seize, and those

we let pass. But I think we all know that when we choose to do

good, good will follow; and that when we choose Service Above

Self as our life’s path, the direction it will take us will be a good

one.

No one can see the future. No one knows what changes lie ahead.

But I have faith in Rotary, and in Rotarians, that with every

passing year, you will make our world a better place through

Rotary Serving Humanity.
