COMPARATIVES

• We use the comparative form to show the difference between two objects.

For example;

This is a small box. This is a big box.

In this case, it is used adjective + er or more + adjective to compare.

If the adjective has one syllable, it adds only – er : Example:

Ayşe is taller than Ahmet.

River Nile is longer than River Amazon.

COMPARATIVES

• We use the comparative form to show the difference between two objects.

For example;

This is a small box. This is a big box.

In this case, it is used adjective + er or more + adjective to compare.

Two syllable adjectives ending in ‘-y’ : Example: Ugly Ugl +i +erPretty Prett+ i+ er

My family is happier than your family. Ahmet’s toy is prettier than Mehmet’s toy.

If adjective has two, three or more syllable, it places 'more' before the adjective

Example:Interesting more interestingDifficult more difficult

Bill’ s car is more than expensive than John’ s car.

SUPERLATIVE

We use the superlative form when speaking about three or more objects to show which object is 'the most' of something.

If it has one syllable, It is placed 'the' before the adjective and add '-est' to end a of the adjective.

Example: Cold the Cold+ est Short the Short+ est Dark the Dark+ est

If the adjective has two, three or more syllable, adjectives place 'the most' before the adjective.

Example:Delicious The most deliciousExtraordinary The most extraordinary
