Proposed “Analysys Mason Constellation Chart” to be our branded way of summarizing information about vendors in a way that CSPs care about
Gartner has its “Magic Quadrant” and “Hype Cycle”
Forrester has its “Wave”
We need something
We’ve tried a few things already, but none quite made it.
Here’s another try. It is geared towards CSPs and attempts to characterise the software vendors in a way that provides value to the CSPs.
Whatta ya think?

This ‘Constellation Chart’ represents the different strategies and market positions of the various vendors that are important to the CSPs. Placement should be easy to defend.
Note that there is not an obvious “best” place to be on the constellation chart.
The x-axis represents how ‘best-in-suite’ vs. ‘best-in-class’ they are while the y-axis represents their product vs. service orientation.
Different Operators prefer different approaches – this helps the Operator map their preferred approach to their vendor.

These should represent the characteristics of the vendors that are most important to the CSPs, other than price. This is my proposed list.
Note that this is just another way of showing a ‘spider diagram’ – but I haven’t seen anyone use it before.
The ratings are definitely a matter of opinion, but are not so fine-grained as to cause a big problem, I think. Most major vendors will have full or nearly-full stars. Smaller vendors will have smaller, probably lopsided stars.

It is easy to copy the composite stars and delete the points on the star to do the ratings.
Grouped togetherUngrouped for easy use.
Delete the ones that you do not want.

Thoughts and extensions….
We could put a circle around the stars to represent the size of their revenue in that segment.
Other ideas?
