Publicity and Broadcast of

Warnings Posters and Films

The ACWCs/CWCs should write to the State

Government officials concerned for giving

publicity to the people in the coastal districts

about cyclones through cyclone posters and by

screening films on cyclones.

Should be included in School Curriculum

Pamphlets could be printed

Print & Electronic Media

Talk show on hazards of cyclones and

precautionary measures

AIR- extended Watch hours and alerts during

Film music prgramme

Articles on cyclones in the print media (Fading

Memory Syndrome)

Inspection of Coastal Observatories & ports

Maintenance of Radar & Other equipments to be

checked

All the coastal observatories should be inspected once

in a year during April or September

Ensure instruments at these stations are maintained in

good condition

Staff are familiar with Procedures

If persistent error is noticed , the observer should be

immediately instructed to follow proper procedures.

Observatory telephone/FAX/e-mail, the communication

system should be checked.

Reference Publications and Forms

Relevant reference publications, such as, Code of

storm warning signals for use at Indian maritime ports,

Weather services to shipping, fishing vessels and

maritime interests, the tide tables for the year, storm

track atlas, code books, cyclone manual and required

nomograms and T-classification tables for interpreting

and assessing storm intensity from satellite pictures,

etc., should be made readily available for storm warning

work.

Sufficient materials like Cyclone Warning manuals in

India, copies of Standard Operation Procedure , all

special type of charts and forms required for cyclone

work should be kept at the ACWCs/CWCs/CWD.

User’s Workshop

The ACWC’s and CWC’s should organize the

User’s meet, preferably once in two years to

apprise the User’s about the cyclone warning

activity of IMD and collect their comments and

feedback for further improvement of cyclone

warning services in the country.

Have separate work shop for sectors (like

Railways, ports and Fisheries etc) to focus on

their needs
