ABOUTME

Originally from a small farming community in Northwest Ohio called Bluffton, I have lived in Columbus for the past four years pursuing a degree in architecture. In May, I graduated Cum Laude, diploma with Honors from The Ohio State University. In September, I will begin my journey as a master of urban & regional planning candidate at the Humphrey School of Public of Affairs at the University of Minnesota. Over the course of the next two years, I will gain valuable knowledge and expertise in the areas of housing & community development.

In addition to my studies, I have developed interests in international and economic development through my involvement with the international non-profit Nourish International. Nourish International is a student-led organization focused on engaging students and empowering communities to alleviate extreme poverty globally. With Nourish, I have helped lead my local chapter at Ohio State, lead an international student advisory board and committed my insight to the Board of Directors. At the Board level, I have helped analyze, evaluate and re-structure the organization’s strategic plan and student/chapter programming. I also participate in business decisions and vote as a representative of the ever-growing 1,200 students and alumni.

In time, I began to see the merger of my work with Nourish and my undergraduate studies as a career in urban & regional planning. My passion is working with communities to develop and maintain vibrant and resilient neighborhoods. I enjoy seeing neighborhoods thrive on their own ideas. I full heartedly believe in the Nigerian proverb, “It takes a whole village to raise a child.” I believe that by investing in our communities, we can change our world for the better. As I grow as a professional, I hope to continue to learn more about the world and how to create real and lasting change.

Kinnear Road needs timely investment from Ohio State to create a world-renowned research park.

Kinnear Road is in dire need of revitalization, raising its standards to match those of the University to which it is closely related. The standards of the world-ranked research park residing on the stretch and the standards of the thousands of employees, residents, faculty and students need to find balance. A reconstruction of the road system, implementation of public transport, sidewalks, amenities and sustainable practices will not only beautify the area, but make it a heavily visited campus sector that improves the quality of life for all. Hypothesis, the aptly named research park, will be an economic driver for the neighboring communities but also the Columbus Community at large. With this plan, the forgotten area will no longer be forgotten.

TS55 Points’ aim is to reflect the qualities that each of the 5 accredited architecture schools in Ohio and Ohio itself boast. The form of 5 Points reads as if the land from Ohio is peeled off the ground and manipulated to house the Center “in Ohio.” The library and meeting place merge into one and serve as the center of knowledge and community, for, as architects, we learn best when we openly discuss current and past work. This space’s corner location allows for a literal transparency between the pin-ups and the public inviting them to view into the building and admire the works in progress on display, integrating them into the design process. The studio is pulled from the library and collaboration area, allowing for ease of access to research and thoughtful discussion about the current work of the 15 architects. The southern façade is comprised of glass and wood panels to allow the perfect amount light into the open working space. The geolocation of the 5 schools and their relation to the work space is used as a motif, influencing the design of the mullions that support the glasswork as well as the skylight which slices throught the roof, casting strips of light into the exhibition space.

Site Overview

One of the main foci of The Sierra Club is educating young generations of the harmful affects of humans on the environment. In addition, they provide opportunities for the young people to use their imagination and ingenuity to change the trajectory of our ecological crises. Because education is a key tenant of the Sierra Club’s mission, this led me to design the organization’s Northwest Headquarters to embody and reflect the initiative. I want the building to not only house an organization but also provide an educational tool, through it’s construction and use, for the Cincinnati Community. The structure has a central void to allow light and air circulation. It also hosts a gastro-cafe and ample public space to benefit the surrounding community.

This project re-envisions how people use the Tiber River, how the Ponte Cestio and Ponte Palatino bridge the historic city center and the more residential, Trastevere regions. The historic site posed several restrictions, but the team ultimately decided to place the Tiber Historic Museum and Exhibitions underground. This decision preserved the historic landscape and also provided pleasurable access to the riverside. Bringing access to the river is important in order to renew attention and attraction to the river. The current state of the river often goes unnoticed. As an integral part to the development of the historic city and it’s representation as a source of life, it’s important for the Roman community to utilize and recognize the river.

Nourish International’s mission is to engage students and empower communities to make a lasting impact on extreme poverty. Our approach is unique in that it addresses the massive needs of communities with sustainable, scalable solutions, while catalyzing tomorrow’s leaders to take action now. Nourish students partner with communities who lack the necessary funds and resources for development projects, but who have the entrepreneurial vision to impact poverty. We invest time and funds to support leaders within communities and empower local solutions. Part of our investment goes toward the Student Advisory Board, a group of students led by students to advise and communicate with the Board of Directors on behalf of the Movement.
