• Ongoing professional development to learn about different families’ cultures.

• School “mapping”- identify local non-profit organizations and higher education, and work with them as partners.

Two-way Communication

• Social event plans led by families and staff, at the convenience of all stakeholders.

• Schools must have a meaningful two-way conversation about student’s achievement and programs and services available for the student in a timely manner.

Welcome Environment

• School is open year-round and after school as a family resource.

Information and Tools for Parent Involvement

• School fully shares ongoing data on student’s achievement throughout the year. Schools keep parents engaged in the process of their children from the beginning of school to the last day of school.

• Families learn how the school structure works, and build parents as advocates.

Customer Service

• Parent Center offers leadership training, and referrals to social services.

• Ongoing dialog with all stakeholders of schools.

Meaningful Participation for All Stakeholders

• Parents lead meetings and are recognized as equal partners and experts.

• All stakeholders are included in celebration events and honored in a school assembly as equal.

Parents As Students Advocate

• Parents are advocates for their children and take roles as equal partners in decision-making in their children’s school.

• School provides services to whole families as well as activities that encourage and inspire participation.

Supportive Policy

• Written school policy must be translated in the home language of parents so they understand.

• Policies must be jointly created with parents as equal partners and must be approved by parents per NCLB section 1118.

Professional Development

• Leadership Training for parents that enhance skills needed to participate as equal partners in decision-making impacting students achievement must be provided. The source of funding is available from Title 1, Title 111 , Title 11,that have parent involvement components with minimum funding of 1%.

Parent Resources

• Resources are available for child care, transportation, refreshments, material for activities and supplies. What resources? “Childcare, transportation, materials for and activities, supplies, and refreshments are provided.”
