JAMMU, Oct 17: The'Festival of Lights' commonlyknown as Diwali was celebrat-ed with great enthusiasm byvarious educational institu-tions across Jammu region.

To celebrate the occasion, aRangoli and Flower arrange-ment competition was organ-ized in Dogra Degree College.The BBA/BA/BCom studentsof the College participated inthe competitions and displayedtheir skills. A total of seventeams (one from each class)participated in the competitionand three teams were awardedprizes for their designs.

GD Goenka Public School,Jammu organized a specialassembly on the eve of Diwali.Students participated in vari-ous competitions like Rangolimaking and Class decoration.The quadrangle, where the cul-tural extravagance was held,came to life with festivitiesthat captured the essence ofDiwali. Every class displayedtheir talent and came with a lotof innovative ideas which werevisible in the designs made bythem.

The celebration of theFestival of Lights came alive atKC International School whenthe whole school wore a fes-tive look with Diyas andlanterns adorning the corri-dors. The students talked aboutthe significance of the festival.The students showcased thespirit of Diwali through a mes-merising dance performance.The Pre-Primary students per-formed a puppet show to cele-brate the joyous occasion. AnInter-house Rangoli and Diyaarrangement competition wasalso organized.

Diwali was also celebratedwith great pomp and show atStephens International PublicSchool Jammu. The colourfulRangolis made by studentsadded the perfect setting to thefestivity. Wisdom house stood1st in the Rangoli competition.The programme started with askit depicting the importantphases of Rama's life. Studentsalso talked about the signifi-cance of the festival.

Rich Harvest School, BariBrahamana celebrated Diwaliwith great pomp and show inthe school premises. The cele-bration started with the light-ing of earthen lamps amongstchanting of mantras. The mainattraction of the programmewas the Rangoli competition.

The students put up their artis-tic acumen on display.

Diwali was also celebratedby students and staff membersof Dogra Higher SecondarySchool, Shastri Nagar, Jammu.Students decorated the schoolbeautifully with flowers andbuntings. An inter-houseRangoli and Candle decorationcompetition was held in theschool premises and prizeswere awarded to first threewinners. Sweets were distrib-uted among the students by theschool management.

British International Schoolcelebrated Diwali with greatenthusiasm and fervor. Thefunction was presided over bychief guest, Rafeequal Hassan,DIG Jammu, Kathua andSamba Range. The program-mer started with the traditionallighting of lamp. The studentsperformed various culturalitems including a symbolicdance with diyas, group songon Diwali in English and a skiton "Ramayana".

The Festival of Lights wascelebrated with true spirit byJammu Sanskriti School,Jammu by lighting the claylamps. Special assembly beganwith songs and dance perform-ances which left the entireschool ensorcelled. This wasfollowed by a meaningful skitenacted by Sanskritians of theschool highlighting the mes-sage of Diwali and invokingGod's blessings.

The Festival of Lights camealive at APS Kaluchak. Thewhole school wore a festivelook with earthen lamps andlanterns adorning the corridorsin bright colours. A specialassembly was organized tomark this crucial occasion. Theskits on mythological charac-ters enacted by the studentsadded the perfect setting to thefestivity. The celebration cul-minated with a gripping groupsong by the little bloomers inthe special morning assembly.

RM Public School celebrat-ed Diwali with fervor. Theschool was decorated withdiyas and colourful lights.Teachers of the school present-ed two dance performances.Students of RM College ofEducation also presented asong performance. An inter-house competition of decorat-ing diyas, candles and thaliswas also organized on theoccasion.

Diwali was celebrated withgreat enthusiasm in all thethree branches of May Fair

School in Jammu. The colour-ful Rangolis made by the stu-dents added the perfect settingto the festivity. An inter-houseRangoli making, diya decora-tion and card making competi-tion was organized in differentwings. The students were sen-sitized on the ill-effects of thecrackers and guidelines onbursting them safely wereshared with them.

The Festival of Lights wascelebrated in a unique way inKartar Public School, Barnoti.The programme began with ameaningful prayer highlightingthe message of Diwali andinvoking God's blessings. Thestudents then went back totheir respective classes andenjoyed themselves by singingsongs, tuning themselves todance and shared sweetsamong themselves. Variousinter-house competitions wereorganized on this occasion.

Sunrise Public School cele-brated Diwali with religiousfervor in school premises. Thestudents made colourful rango-lis with the help of teachers todecorate their classes. All thestudents were presented aNotepad as well as a pencil bythe school management.

Ragersville Preschool,Bhavani Nagar, Janipur(Jammu) celebrated Diwaliwith great enthusiasm. Thefunction commenced withlighting of the lamp by SchoolDirector, Sandeepa Gupta andRajesh Tuli, which was fol-lowed by Sarasvati Vandana.Tastefully decorated schoolcampus added charm to theatmosphere as the little onesdressed up as different charac-ters made beautiful rangoliswith the help of teachers.

Diwali was celebrated withgreat joy by Mount Litera ZeeSchool, Tarore (Samba). TheSchool was decorated by theteachers with Diyas and lights.A special morning Assemblywas conducted and various funactivities like Musical chair,Find your Partner, Treasurehunt, Passing the ball, etc wereorganized in which the stu-dents enjoyed to their heart'scontent.

Tiny toddlers of MadhuvanKids Playway School &Daycare celebrated Diwaliwith great fervor and enthusi-asm. The school was decoratedwith beautiful Rangolis, houseboards and diyas. The celebra-tion started with the lighteningof diyas and candles byPrincipal Amrit Choudhary. Asmall theatrical act 'Ram- leela'was also presented by littlechamps.

Dewan Devi PlaywaySchool celebrated Diwali inthe premises of the school.Various cultural programmeswere organized and all the tod-dlers actively participated inthese programmes to enjoy thefestival.

The Festival of Lights wascelebrated with great joy atTiger Pre-Primary School,Domana. A special assemblywas organized whereinPrincipal of the school spokeabout the significance of cele-brating Diwali. The skits onmythological characters enact-ed by the students added theperfect setting to the festivity.

winning first prizein his categoryduring 2nd DCAOpen FIDE RatedChess Tournamentin New Delhi.

The event wasorganized by

Delhi Chess Association under thebanner of All India ChessFederation at New Delhi.

A total of 481 players fromacross the country participated inthe tournament which included 2Grandmasters, 8 InternationalMasters and 419 Internationalrated chess players.

In tough fought battles with a

better tie break score, AakashdeepSingh emerged as winner whileTrinabh Bhatnagar of Delhibagged second prize in the samecategory. Aakashdeep has beenlisted as the fastest growing chessplayer in 2016 by Asian Chessfederation, when he secured 227points in a single Grand MastersTournament held in New Delhi.

The cash prizes and trophieswere distributed by Anurag Garg,Joint Director Central Bureau ofInvestigations and Bharat Singh,Secretary, All India ChessFederation in the presence of AKVerma, Secretary Delhi ChessAssociation and GrandmasterMircea Parligras.

The event also saw participa-tion of Vomedh Rangmanch,which super hit play “Ek AurBirbal” for the audience of Delhi-NCR. The play written by RakeshRoshan Bhat and was directed byRohit Bhat.

The matches for the Sixth edi-tion of Kashmiri Pandit CricketLeague commenced on October10 and finals for both men andwomen editions were held atBaliwayas, Gurgaon-FaridabadRoad, Gurugram.

Twenty teams from differentparts of the country participatedwhich included teams fromKashmir valley, Jammu, Punjab,Chandigarh, Ghaziabad, Noida,Delhi, Faridabad, Gurgaon andPune. Some of the players evencame from Bangalore,Hyderabad, Jaipur and differentparts of the country to be part ofthis sporting extravaganza. Besides the Cultural troupe“Vomedh Rangmanch” fromJammu, prominent singers ofcommunity including DalipLangoo mesmerized the crowdwith his voice. Local artist popu-larly known as nightingale ofGurugram Purnima Raina andGaash Tarakh winner Ritika Rainaalso performed and enthralled theaudience. Young artist from Jaipurnamely Krishna also performedalong with the other artists. JaiKrishan Bali from Jammu was athis best with solo performance ofLadishah. The high octane final matchplayed between Atkhar PublicSchool (APS) and GovernmentGirls Higher Secondary School(GGHSS) Bhaderwah kept hun-dreds of spectators on toes as withevery ball, the momentum kepton changing.

After winning the toss, APSelected to bat and posted animpressive 83 runs in stipulated10 overs. GGHSS started thechase nervously as they could notcope up with the tight bowlingand extraordinary fielding ofAPS.

In the last over, it looked thatAPS will win the match easily asGGHSS needed 15 runs, in thefirst 2 balls, 2 fours were hit fol-lowed by 2 dot balls. On the sec-ond last ball, a single was takenmaking it more difficult for PriyaBhagat as her team needed 6 runson the last ball, but she hit a mas-sive six to win the match and cov-eted trophy for her team.

Although APS loss the matchbut every spectators and distin-guished guests were all praise fortheir energetic performance.

Today, in the third match ofthe Championship, Jammu RisingStars defeated JammuChallengers Eleven by 30 runs .

Batting first, Jammu RisingStars scored 170 runs for the lossof 7 wickets in 30 overs. Abhinavwas the main scorer who made 33runs, Musaif also made valuable30 runs and Thathagya con-tributed with 23 runs to the total.
